The role
As a Skynet Baseband Technical Authority you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary.
Day-to-day, you will oversee the design, development, and maintenance of baseband systems within the UK MOD Satellite Communications Network. This role focuses on IP, voice, and serial services with. As the technical authority, you will ensure that all systems meet operational requirements and maintain the highest standards of performance, security, and interoperability within the network.
Act as the subject matter expert and technical authority for baseband systems relating to IP, voice, and serial services. Oversee all related equipment and technologies, ensuring compliance with MOD standards and requirements. Act as a 4th line technical lead to resolve complex technical problems. Lead the design and architecture of baseband systems, focusing on high-availability solutions for IP based services across the satellite communications network. Interpret and apply appropriate standards, policies and legislation whilst working with Information Assurance (IA) leads from the programme. Ensure that baseband systems are seamlessly integrated with satellite communications systems and other networks, providing reliable and secure communication channels for military operations. Ensure that all baseband systems adhere to MOD security protocols and policies, maintaining the highest standards of encryption and data security. Provide expert advice and guidance to technical teams, contractors, and stakeholders regarding baseband technologies and the implementation of new solutions. Includes the ability to identify and mitigate risks associated with baseband services and equipment, ensuring the continued resilience and reliability of communication systems.
This role is full time 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2/3 days in the office and 2/3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Skynet Baseband Technical Authority:
Experience within satellite communications or telecommunications. Experience with multi-factor authentication solutions. Experience working with UK MOD or equivalent military communications systems. Baseband Expertise: In-depth knowledge of baseband technologies, including those from Cisco, Juniper and Fortinet Technical Leadership: Proven experience in a technical leadership role within a defence or communications environment, with a focus on baseband technology services. Communication Protocols: A strong understanding of Cisco ASR/ISR Routing. Knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, QoS, DHCP, DNS, STP, VRF, VLANs, VSS, LISP
Qualifications for the Skynet Baseband Technical Authority:
CCIE/CCNP Routing & Switching Certification Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent accreditation. Understanding of Microsoft technologiesSecurity Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
