Simulation Training Specialist

University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Pharmacy (SOP) is currently seekinga Simulation Training Specialist in the Department of Practice, Sciences, and HealthOutcomes Research.The SOP Simulation program facilitates and manages simulated instruction, practice, and assessment sessions for three cohorts of PharmD students and two cohorts of Physician Assistant students totaling more than 350 students annually.The Simulation Training Specialist will assist in the operation of simulation effortsfor the SOP and the UMB Physician Assistant Programs.This includes maintaining simulation spaces in the School of Pharmacy and other spaces accessible to the UMB Physician Assistant Program. Setup, operate, andmaintain simulation equipment used in simulation activities.Assist in the development and facilitation of simulation-based training and evaluation for students. Identify and train individuals to serve as standardized patients, organize and maintain simulation equipment and inventory supplies.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Performs simple technical assistance in the functional aspects of simulation including setup and maintenance of simulation skill labs and task training equipment. Responsibilities include setting up, operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing simulation equipment, and hospital-type equipment and/or audio visual/information technology equipment used in simulation activities. Instructs and assists with simulations.May assist in designs and pilot’s scenarios, skills stations, and training sessions and the development of assessment tools in collaboration with external stakeholders, Simulation Educator, and/or faculty.Organize the placement of equipment and supplies in the storerooms. Create and maintain sign-out sheets and other record keeping methods, to track and manage inventory location and levels.Identify and train individuals to serve as standardized patients for simulation experiences.Train standardized patients in providing feedback to students. Ensure interrater reliability among standardized patients.Provides structure and guidance to students, nurses, residents, physicians, and faculty during simulation. Educates on any introductory information for each scenario that may help participants perform better in the simulations. Presents each scenario to participants.In collaboration with faculty and students, assists in developing curriculum, learning outcomes and educational materials for simulation scenarios and scripts. Participate in the development of simulation training materials such as manuals and online guides.Maintains proficiency in existing and emerging technologies and participates in technology training and attend conferences to stay current with simulation technology.Development and implementation of policies and procedures for simulation and learning labs.Develops, implements, and maintains effective mechanisms for ongoing relationships/partnerships with department managers through participation in work groups/task forces and by assisting in the design of long-range training/development plans.Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:Bachelor's in clinical education, nursing, health sciences, technology, or clinically related field.

Experience:Two (2) years of clinical experience and one (1) year in simulationstechnology, clinical teaching, or clinical education.

Preferred Experience:Two (2) years of medical simulation experience or an equivalent combination of education and alternate experience is preferred.

Other:May consider a combination of directly related experience and education. Clery Act designated job as campus security authorities (CSA) member and will comply with Clery Act requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
