Job Summary:
Operates the specific vehicles used for the project work in their field of specialty (road, pipelines, rail, etc.) in observance of the safety guidelines.
This position includes additional duties as a water truck driver.
Main Responsibilities:
• Embrace the Company’s safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
• Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
• Follow dispatch instructions and adhere to commercial driving regulations
• Perform daily pre/post trip inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with DOT regulations and company guidelines; check fluid levels, tires, lights, and other controls required for safe operation
• Drive and operate distributor truck equipped with tank to spray asphalt emulsions on road surfaces
• Load truck and emulsion tanks, including connecting and disconnecting hoses
• Set spray bar on manual, automatic, or semi-automatic distributors for applying liquid asphalt and emulsion; clean spray bars as needed
• Monitor flow, tachometer and temperature gauges to ensure uniform distribution of product
• Observe and monitor product quality and ensure proper application
• Maintain housekeeping of vehicle, including interior operator’s cab and exterior components
• Maintain accurate time, mileage, and delivery logs, and submit forms/paperwork required for accounting purposes
• Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment; refer major problems to the supervisor
• Operates a commercial vehicle to transport water and/or other materials to job sites; distributes water and/or materials on job site
• Operate other vehicles and/or equipment, and assist paving crew with other tasks as assigned
Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Class A CDL with doubles/triples, hazmat and tanker endorsement, and clean driving history
Skills:
• Two years of experience working in paving operations or similar environment preferred
• Prior experience operating a commercial vehicle in an industrial, construction, or similar environment preferred
• Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions in English
• Ability to complete required paper and/or electronic documentation
Physical Requirements:
• Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
• Occasionally required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
• Regularly required to use hands to move and manipulate objects
• Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear)
• Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• Frequent exposure to loud noise, and work around heavy machinery and mobile construction equipment
• Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, fuel, oil, and other chemicals typical to construction sites
• Some travel with overnight stays away from home may be required
