Shift Supervisor - Blood Bank (Evening & Midnight Shift)

This role plans, coordinates, and directs daily activities within a specific section of the clinical lab, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Oversees technical aspects of tests, equipment management, scheduling and staff training and competency assessment for efficient operations. Manages new process development, SOP adherence, and quality activities while tracking metrics and contributing to team plans and budgets. Trains and mentors technical staff on applicable lab systems and processes. This opportunity is assigned to Blood Bank and will supervise the Evening and Midnight shifts in Blood Bank for the Department of Pathology. The successful candidate will have current blood bank technical experience. Previous supervisory experience is preferred. The position will be primarily evening shift with rotating weekend/holiday coverage. Job Responsibilities: Plan, coordinate, and direct daily activities of staff within own area (e.g., diagnostic, biorepository, HAL) to meet department requirements. Coordinate and monitor overall quality and technical aspects of tests/processes performed and other technical activities within a specified section of the laboratory. Plan and monitor availability of required equipment, reagents, supplies and ensure sufficient staffing are available for production activities, timely verification of batch record completion and communication of results. Oversee new process development and quality activities and ensure that lab operations follow internal SOPs and complies with applicable regulatory/accreditation requirements. Oversee training/competency and monitor work performance of technical staff. Maintain SOPs and ensure compliance with relevant requirements as applicable. Track and report operational and quality metrics to relevant leadership teams. Assist in planning and monitoring of overall team plans and budgets. Train and mentor teams around systems and processes within lab area. Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution. Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Minimum Education and/or Training: Bachelor’s degree (e.g., medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or biological, chemical or physical science) required. Minimum Experience: 4+ years of relevant experience Specialty training required if applicable. Significant experience with applicable clinical lab techniques and procedures. Significant experience engaging with relevant cross-functional teams (e.g., hospital personnel and physicians, research teams) to coordinate section activities and exchange technical/sensitive information. Demonstrated success managing teams/ resources/ timelines preferred. Experience providing broader mentorship within and across teams preferred. Proven performance in earlier role/comparable role. Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only: For CLIA-licensed labs, licensure in the state of Tennessee as a Medical Laboratory Supervisor-General or as a categorical supervisor in assigned laboratory discipline required within 6 months of hire Compensation In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
