People • Customers • Trust The Shift Supervisor is responsible for effectively leading a production team in the efficient and safe production of quality corrugated products. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES: Coordinate activity with the production manager, superintendent, maintenance supervisor, and scheduler to plan and manage daily and weekly schedules to meet production goals, prioritize work orders, maintain quality requirements, and assure an even flow of work through all the departments to increase up-time and minimize unscheduled downtime. Schedule work, coordinate production activities, provide direct oversight of employees, approve time records, communicate and implement company policy. Engage in employee development activities, make recommendations on employee hire, promotion and disciplinary action. Create a plant transition training plan while ensuring alignment between Team Phoenix, Corporate Engineering and Process Technology, and equipment manufacturers. This plan is to include qualification cards for all plant positions, employee evaluations, and a mento program. Additionally, the mentor program will be incorporated into our existing onboarding program. Maintain a clean, safe and injury-free work environment by ensuring health and safety procedures are understood and executed by all employees. Increase print and quality level of knowledge for all production employees to include supervisors and lead persons. Help ensure Spectrophotometers are employed and used properly. Conduct employee training on all equipment, protocols, production standards, safety regulations and waste control on an ongoing basis. Analyze production performance, identify opportunities, make recommendations for process and equipment improvement, establish and execute goals. Additionally, create a new shift report format which includes shift quality checks in it. Build a process to report new machine performance to company executives using existing RCI reports. Supervise efficient operation of equipment including the inspection of materials, products and equipment to detect and/or prevent malfunctions. Participate in production meetings and provide updates as needed. Request materials, supplies, equipment parts, or repair services as needed. Assist with new machine center layout and setup. Assist with new, on-site ink kitchen startup. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED. 15+ years’ previous experience in a supervisory capacity at a corrugated manufacturing facility. Previous experience in coaching, training, teambuilding, performance development, and conflict resolution. Able to work flexible hours as needed Must be authorized to work in the U.S PREFERRED QUALFICATIONS: Some college coursework. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Safety must be first, always. Established knowledge of corrugated and packaging manufacturing machinery, concepts, practices, and procedures including continual improvement processes and safety practices – must be a process-minded individual. Working knowledge of manufacturing systems including shop floor software. Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle numerous details, deadlines, and requests. Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple projects and/or requests concurrently. Strong listening, evaluating, and problem-solving skills. Ability to create alternative solutions and meet deadlines. Solid analytical, mechanical, and mathematical skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals throughout the company on departmental procedures, policies, practices, and requests for information. Strong interpersonal skills to effectively lead and communicate with production team and management. Previous work experience as a member of a team, or a strong understanding of the importance of open communication and information sharing between team members.
