Job DescriptionAs our SHE Officer some of your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Maintain an inventory of facilities, equipment and infrastructure that must be inspected regularly in the assigned area of responsibility.Maintain an updated schedule of inspections that covers all facilities, equipment and infrastructure that must be inspected regularly in the assigned area of responsibility.Conduct physical condition inspections per the approved schedule, communicating findings to and ensuring sign-off by the relevant legal appointees.Assess and inspect associated documentation.Discuss, record and sign off on findings in the logbook.Capture relevant information on the applicable company system, such as ISOMETRIX, and verify effective close-out of previous findings.Investigations:Assist and participate in the incident investigation per the Anglo requirements.Compile investigation reports and obtain necessary signoff and copies of associated documents.Capture incidents and related actions on the relevant systems such as ISOMETRIX.Follow up on the close-out of corrective actions.Support the Senior SHE Specialist and Chief Safety Officer with the compilation of SHE Files.Report, capture, and verify the close-out of High Potential Hazards from assigned areas of responsibility.Promoting Safety Culture:Support actions necessary to ensure effective implementation of Project Safety Improvement Plans (SIPs)Actively participate in Safety initiatives (e.g., Hazard hunts and HPH reporting)Conduct and or participate in Internal Audits in areas of responsibility and other areas as assignedExecute the Emergency drills in assigned areas of responsibilityAccess safety statistics to identify trends and areas for improvement.The Work: Key Outputs and AccountabilitiesContractor Management and Coaching:Reconcile the contractor safety files and approve the files in Passport 360 if found to be compliant.Conduct site establishment audits on contractors.Collect statistics from contractors every week and consolidate them into a weekly project report.Assist contractors and SHE Representatives in their areas of responsibilityReporting:Prepare and submit a weekly SHE Officer report using prescribed templates or format.Execute scheduled physical condition inspections and ensure necessary documentation is completed accurately and on time.Discuss, document, and provide sign-off for all findings in the logbook.Collect information using Isometrix and ensure all previous findings have been closed out.Update the inspection schedule to ensure all inspections are conducted on time.Investigate damages, MTCs, FACs, and near misses as required.Prepare and finalise reports, obtain signoff, and ensure all associated documents are correctly stored and maintained.Follow up on corrective actions to ensure they have been implemented effectively.Work with the Section Manager of Safety to complete Red Files and ensure that all necessary information is provided.Execute the investigation and submission of High Potential Hazards and ensure they are addressed promptly and effectively.Support actions on the Safety Improvement Plan (SIP) and ensure all necessary steps are taken to improve workplace safety.Actively participate in Safety initiatives such as VFL and STEPS to increase awareness and promote a safety culture.Conduct internal audits in respective areas to identify potential safety hazards or risks and take necessary steps to address them.Execute emergency drills to ensure all employees are prepared and know what to do in an emergency.This role is in the Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) NC discipline at a 7.8 level reporting to Section Manager SHE
QualificationsQualifications
Grade 12Higher Certificate in Safety Management (NQF5)National Diploma (NQF Level 6)SA Driver’s License.Medical Fitness Certificate.Advantageous
SAMTRAC Mining or COMSOC 1 & 2 (Advantageous).A3 Risk Management (Advantageous).Learning from Incidents course (Advantageous).SACPCMP Registration as a Safety Officer (Advantageous).Passport 360 and ISOMETRIXTechnical Knowledge
3-5 years' experience in daily SHE management in a mine or construction environment (preferably open cast), with supervisory experience.Understand the various stakeholders in the construction industry.Relevant legislation.Proficient in computer literacy skills, particularly in MS Office applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.Understand standards and recommended practices to ensure compliance with regulations and industry best practices.Possesses knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996) and other related legislation and applies this knowledge to ensure compliance and safety in the workplace.Additional InformationWho we are?
