Job Description

Job Title: Shari’ah Manager

Reports To: Shari’ah Head

The purpose of the role is to advise, direct, review and supervise the Islamic operations of the FirstRand Group, under the guidance of the Shari’ah Head, to ensure that these operations are conducted as prescribed by the FirstRand Shari'ah Advisory Committee (SAC)

Are you someone who can:

Shari’ah Governance

Prepare reports and meeting packs for SAC meetingsPrepare minutes for SAC and other Shari’ah-related meetingsOversee implementation of rulings issued by the SAC

Shari’ah Compliance:

Monitor and ensure compliance with Shari’ah principles in all business activitiesReview contracts, agreements, and transactions for Shari’ah complianceConduct regular audits and reviews and report on the findings to the Shari’ah Head/SAC

Shari’ah Research and Product Development:

Conduct Shari’ah research on various financial products and servicesCollaborate with product development teams to create Shari’ah-compliant financial productsEnsure that new products and services adhere to Shari’ah principlesPresent products to the SAC for approval

Shari’ah Advisory:

Provide Shari’ah advisory and guidance to all relevant stakeholdersReview marketing material for Islamic productsAttend meetings as and when required

Training and Awareness:

Conduct training sessions for staff on Shari’ah principles and compliancePromote awareness of Shari’ah compliance within the organization

Stakeholder Engagement:

Maintain relationships with Ulama bodies and other key external stakeholders

The ideal candidate will have:

Aalim Faadil or Bachelor’s Degree in Shari’ahIn-depth knowledge of Shari’ah jurisprudence and Islamic finance principlesIftaa certification is preferredBachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, auditing, law or another relevant field is preferredCertified Shari’ah Advisor & Auditor (CSAA) or equivalent certification is preferredExperience in Shari’ah compliance within the banking or financial sector is preferred
