ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB’s Water Resources group is growing across New England, and we're looking for a Senior Water Resources Engineer with strong hydraulics/hydrology technical expertise to be a leader in our dynamic team of Water Resource engineers and scientists. With climate change an every-day reality, we are seeing the focus on resilient water resources solutions expanding and are excited to be on the cutting edge of shaping this practice. 

 

In this position you will assist our clients with developing strategic, cost-effective, and forward-thinking solutions to their riverine and coastal flooding, ecological restoration, and water resources challenges. You will have an opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, ranging from site to watershed scale and for a variety of private and public sector clients. You will have the support of a growing group of water resources professional across New England and Projects may include analysis and engineering solutions for riverine and coastal resiliency, bridge hydraulics, stream restorations, culvert design, dam removals, flood mitigation and management.

 

Responsibilities

Leading multi-disciplinary projects with hydrologic, hydraulic, and resiliency focus including interaction with staff and clientsConducting hydrologic, hydraulic and scour studies for riverine and coastal environments using current modeling software including HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, HY-8, EPA SWMM, SRH-2D/SMS, CHAMP, and othersUsing analysis to identify and design flood, scour and resiliency improvements including both hardened features and nature based solutions and living shorelinesPerforming FEMA “no-rise” analyses and assisting clients with FEMA map revisions Developing technical reports, design plans, construction documents, and specifications for water resources related projectsLeading the construction administration for water resource projectsWork with VHB’s integrated team to evaluate permit requirements and support the development of permit applicationsAttend and present at meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholdersLead the development of project proposals, scopes of work and fee estimatesMentoring and expanding the technical resources of our staff

Skills and Abilities

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsTeam-oriented with strong capability to motivate othersMust demonstrate superior ability in collaborative problem solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammatesAdvanced understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling programs, and the ability to select an apply to appropriate approach to solve our clients problemExperience and interest in staff developmentUnderstanding of local, state, and federal permitting

Qualifications

BS in Civil/Environmental engineering or related discipline Minimum of 11-15 years of professional water resources engineering, and analysis experience requiredPE license required
