SENIOR LABORATORY TECHNICIAN (TE10)

Applications are invited for the above position from suitably qualified candidates. The main purpose of this post will be the troubleshooting and repair of faulty electronic systems, setting up/supervising of experiments in teaching laboratories and assisting academics and postgraduate students with equipment repairs and installations.

Brief Description

Key responsibilities include the following:

Setting up of undergraduate laboratory equipment.

Troubleshoot and repair of electronic equipment within the teaching and research laboratories.

Assist academics and postgraduate students with developing of new experimental and research setups/installations and testing.

Responsible for maintaining/implementing OH&S policies in the practical laboratories.

Maintaining sufficient stocks of equipment and consumables for the undergraduate practical laboratories. To maintain updated asset registers.

Provide technical support at the WITS Anglo American Digital Dome when required.

Assist other Schools in the Faculty of Science with electronic and related matters when required via the respective Line Manager(s).

Responsible for teaching demonstration equipment.

Minimum qualifications/requirements/criteria:

NDip/BTech/BSc Electronics/Electrical Engineering or equivalent

Minimum 3 years experience in related field

Experience in troubleshooting and repairs of electronic equipment

Electronic design and development (Basic to intermediate level)

Software development

Project management

Ability to work well with staff and students (team) and independently

Good communication skills (language and written)
