Senior Workshop Technician (Grade TE.09.4)
The School of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the full-time and permanent position of Senior Workshop Technician. The purpose of the job is to provide technical support to the School. The successful applicant will be responsible for the development and construction of apparatus and equipment in various Chemical Engineering laboratories and for the repair and maintenance of such equipment as well as performing various tasks that are necessary for the general and smooth running of the School.Brief DescriptionMinimum qualifications and experience:Applicants for the position should possess a Grade 12 certificate, and certification as aqualified artisan (trade tested). Possession of NTS 3 (and above) and CNCprogramming course is essential. The applicants must have 5 10 years experienceand 3 of which must be at senior workshop technician.Key performance areas:The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate expertise in the following key performance areas: - Generate, read and interpret engineering drawings- Machine, manufacture, and set up experimental research apparatus and equipment as per drawings by staff, students and the principal technician- Machine test samples by the use of lathes, milling machines and surface grinders, to fine tolerances, according to international specification- Operate, repair and service of a wide variety of laboratory equipment as requested by staff, students and the principal technician- Assist academics and students in setting up and operating specialized equipment such as furnaces- Order, receive, store, distribute and connect bottles of gas- Supervise and train junior technical staff and interns- Perform various tasks that are necessary for the general and smooth running of the School- Must possess a driver's licenseEnquiries: Further information may be obtained from Professor Geoffrey S.
