The Senior Sustainability Engineer will be responsible for supporting the activities of the Global Sustainability team related to cruise vessels energy efficiency and sustainability efforts with a focus on energy efficiency and alternative fuels. The latter includes LNG, methanol, biofuels, and the application of fuel cells. The sustainability engineer will provide expertise and support on energy efficiency and performance improvement technologies as they relate to cruise vessels.
The Senior Sustainability Engineer will be responsible for supporting the team, scaling up existing services, capitalizing on new service or product opportunities, and identifying any sustainability-related cruise industry needs.
What You Will Do:
Be a subject matter expert in Decarbonization regulations and their impact to the cruise industry. Understand the role that energy efficiency technologies and alternative fuels play in the decarbonization efforts of the cruise industry and support the department’s activities in this sector. Support ABS clients’ decarbonization strategy initiatives. Support the different projects, services, and other activities within the department. Interact with cruise industry clients to perform services offered by the Global Sustainability team. Establish and manage client projects. Update and inform the Global Sustainability team on cruise-related regulatory changes and their impact on ABS business. Conduct seminars and workshops as well as attend cruise industry events and conferences related to sustainability. Contribute to authoring ABS publications and thought leadership documents.What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree (or recognized equivalent) in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or other related disciplines. M.S. is preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of relevant engineering experience within the marine industry with exposure to cruise ships and yachts.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Detailed knowledge of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) sustainability-related requirements as a port state for cruise ships. Knowledge of cruise and yacht industry trends regarding energy efficiency and alternative fuels. Knowledge of fuel cell technology and application. Knowledge of existing and emerging technologies including engines, fuel, propulsion systems and power generation technologies in maritime applications is a plus. Must possess excellent communication skills both orally and in writing. Must be able to travel. Must be capable of presenting and working with clients. Ability to work well with others. Obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.Reporting Relationships:
Reports directly to the Manager of the Houston Sustainability Center.
