Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer, R&D - NPD

As a Senior Staff Mechanical Design Engineer on our Stryker’s Orthopedic Instruments new product development team, you will design innovative surgical power tool technologies, collaborate closely with customers, and lead projects from concept to commercialization.

You will need to live within commuting distance to our Portage, Michigan office. You will need to be in the office 5 days a week.

What you will do

Design, develop, and evaluate components and systems for medical devices.

Translate complex user needs into simple system designs and specifications.

Conduct advanced prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting.

Guide cross-functional teams in technology exploration and implementation.

Drive competitive strategies using market and clinical insights.

Ensure compliance with medical device standards and regulatory requirements.

Mentor team members and contribute to R&D processes and documentation.

Partner with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Marketing, and Project Management teams to deliver high-quality results.

Lead process improvements, prototype development, and technical expertise in product releases.

Inspire and mentor colleagues while promoting collaboration across teams.

What you need

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

6+ years of work experience in R&D new product development

Experience with mechanical/electro-mechanical assemblies, GD&T, and CAE tools

Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (Creo preferred)

Preferred Qualifications:

Technical leadership experience within a project with direct/indirect report(s) or mentorship experience

Product Launch experience in the medical device industry or regulated industry

Experience with customer centered designs

Experience in developing and optimizing complex designs for mechanical / electro-mechanical assemblies incorporating DFM principles

Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing methods, and product optimization.

Ability to communicate moderate complexity plans and technical information to team members

Travel Percentage: 10%
