Senior Software Engineer
About the Role:
Software Engineers at Mastercard design and code artificial intelligence, cloud, and machine learning platforms that provide mission-critical insights to many of the world’s leading organizations and governments. As a Software Engineer, you will deliver these products and solutions with speed and agility as part of a small team. This will involve developing high-performing, highly scalable software solutions and products for some of the world’s top brands.
This specific role will focus on backend development with knowledge of object-oriented programming using languages such as C++ or Java. Navigating a command-line driven operating system such as Unix is beneficial.
As a Senior Software Engineer at Mastercard, you are expected to perform the following general responsibilities:
-Actively participate in team prioritization discussions with Product/Business stakeholders
-Estimate and own delivery tasks (design, dev, test, deployment, configuration, documentation) to meet the business requirements
-Drive code/design/process trade-off discussions within their team when required
-Perform demos/acceptance discussions in interacting with Product owners
-Develop complete understanding of end-to-end technical architecture and dependency systems
-Drive adoption of technology standards and opinionated frameworks, and review coding, test, and automation work of team members
-Mentor and guide new and less-experienced team members
-Identify opportunities to improve an overall process and trim waste; Share and seek knowledge within Guild/Program to drive reuse of patterns/libraries/practices and enhance productivity
All About You:
-Skillful at writing secure code in multiple languages; Familiar with secure coding standards (e.g., OWASP, CWE, SEI CERT) and vulnerability management
-Understands the basic engineering principles used in building and running mission critical software capabilities (security, scalability, resiliency, customer experience, testing, operability, simplification)
-Proficient in authoring test code with lots of smaller tests followed by few contract tests at service level and fewer journey tests at the integration level (Test Pyramid concept)
-Apply tools (e.g., Sonar, Checkmarx) and techniques to scan and measure code quality and anti-patterns as part of development activity
-Proficient in collaborating with team and business stakeholders to estimate requirements (e.g., story pointing) and prioritize based on business value
-Able to perform domain-driven design to architect and map software solutions to business contexts
-Proficient in orchestrating release workflows and pipelines, and apply standardized pipelines via APIs to achieve CI and CD using industry standard tools (e.g., Jenkins, AWS/Azure pipelines, XL Release, others); Able to configure rules and build automation for code with vulnerability scanning and software composition analysis using standard tools (e.g., Sonar, Checkmarx, JFrog XRay, others)
-Manage builds and artifacts leveraging standard tools (e.g.,Artifactory) to ensure error-free deployment of production code using canary and or blue-green techniques
-Proficient in authoring test cases leveraging behavior-driven development and customer journey concepts
-Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, information technology or related discipline preferred, or equivalent work experience; Payment industry knowledge preferred but not required

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. O'Fallon, Missouri: $115,000 - $184,000 USD
