About the opportunity

The purpose of this role is to empower leaders to take ownership of the safety outcomes within their business units and to build their capacity for safety through expert technical advice, coaching, mentoring, and support. This role would suit an experienced Safety Advisor looking for growth.

 

Based onsite at our Sunshine Coast Delivery Centre, the Senior Safety Specialist will build productive, collaborative and cooperative relationships with a variety of stakeholders, service providers, and regulators to ensure best practice safety, culture and compliance. This role will engage with business leaders and will support the delivery of complex safety-related projects and investigations. Some travel to other sites is required on occasion.

 

What you’ll deliver with us 
In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the delivery of the organisation’s safety strategy in your supporting units, fostering strong relationships with business partners and stakeholders. Your focus will include developing safety plans that align with strategic objectives, emphasising safety leadership and engagement, and supporting implementation of enterprise and local WHS initiatives. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in addressing identified exposures, enabling quality incident investigations, and analysing higher-order control mechanisms to improve safety metrics within the organisation.
  

You’ll also 

Build and maintain trusted partnerships with operational leaders for enterprise and local safety initiatives implementation Provide expert safety advice and ongoing coaching to achieve sustainable safety improvements Oversee local implementation of enterprise safety management systems Support operational managers in conducting incident investigations Develop evidence-based risk initiatives aligned with the safety strategy Share safety learnings and promote storytelling for a strong safety culture Ensure incidents are appropriately escalated and reported within Australia Post Contribute to working parties and committees as required Offer safety leadership counsel to operational leaders for executing safety initiatives Analyse trends in incidents and business requests to identify improvement opportunities in communication, education, or intervention Engage as an active member of the Deliveries, Processing, Transport functions by considering the overall success of the business units when prioritising work activities, sharing knowledge and participating and contributing to team meetings/events
  
  

About you 

You have a unique blend of qualities that make you stand out including being an excellent communicator with sound listening skills, you are an open-minded person and thrive on new suggestions and innovative ideas and feedback. You have outstanding relationship building skills and approach leadership with a coaching and mentorship mentality.  

 

You’ll also have  

Tertiary WHS qualifications or related field, at an undergraduate or post-graduate level 5-10 years in a safety role in large organisations, with experience in unionised settings Interpretation and implementation of safety regulations, standards, and policies Proven track record in investigation, auditing, and providing solutions Strong influencing, prioritisation, and escalation skills Development of strategy-aligned safety plans with positive outcomes Strong relationship building skills, challenging non-compliant practices, and maintaining rapport with unions & HSRs Mentoring for risk-based decisions and increased knowledge Strong knowledge of safety legislation, transport logistics, and operations Expertise in safety management systems implementation, standards, and innovations Work health and safety legislation and chain of responsibility expertise Demonstrated experience in risk management principles within a framework
