Senior Research Tech III (Flow Cytometry)

The Alaka'ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for a qualified Senior Research Tech III (Flow Cytometry) to provide data analysis support to our government customer in Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Remains current in flow cytometry proficiency. Experience in panel optimization and sample preparation for flow cytometry. Experience with flow cytometry operation, maintenance and troubleshooting, particularly BD Biosciences instruments. Proficiency in flow cytometry analysis software such as Diva, FlowJo and/or FCS Express. Exercises an understanding and skill in biomedical research to include platelet biology, hemostasis and coagulation, immunology, and data management to facilitate active participation towards publication. Exercise knowledge of relevant laboratory procedures with special emphasis in biochemistry, coagulation, physiology, and biology. Collect, process, and store biological specimens including the following functions: blood gasses, cell counts, thromboelastography, aggregation assays, coagulation factor analysis, cytokines, oxidants, RNA, complement, ELISAs, clinical chemistries, molecular biology. Prepare solutions, drugs and reagents for experiments. Provide general laboratory maintenance to include cleaning of equipment and work areas, freezer inventories and defrosting, chemical inventories, MSDS, and proper decontamination procedures Collect, record, and organize data, to include multimedia formats from advanced monitoring instrumentation. Properly maintain patient, subject, and sample documentation in accordance with local policies and regulations. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

B.S. or B.A. in the Biological Sciences or Life Sciences (i.e. Biology, Biomedical, Biotechnology Chemistry)

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Ten (10) years of relevant experience in flow cytometry. Experience will be taken into consideration on a case-by-case basis.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Produce and edit photography, graphics, and images for study presentations and publications and presents graphical representations of data and analyses. Coordinate planning, set-up, and collection of experimental data for the research projects. Coordinate with information management division to establish and maintain necessary client server applications for data storage and retrieval. Develop electronic spreadsheet for data acquisition, data mining, and integration of clinical data available as directed by technical point of contact or principal investigator. Compile and analyze data collected to verify accuracy, precision, and validity, identify issues, and formulate recommendations. Develop and maintains research databases. Design and manage specified databases while establishing and abiding by data quality control practices and procedures. Present qualitative and quantitative research results using various software applications. Receive, organize, submit, and track all maintenance requests and work orders for Task Area equipment. Maintain database of calibration records for end user-serviceable laboratory equipment (pipettes, water purification systems, incubators, and cold storage units). Coordinate, schedule, and perform end-user maintenance on Task Area common equipment including: water purification systems, incubators, and cold storage units. Coordinate scheduling of Task Area common-use equipment and ensure dissemination of reservation calendar. Ensure maintenance services are not scheduled during planned experiments. Ensure safety documentation is current, accurate, and properly displayed. Maintain and organize all MSDs, SOPs, and chemical inventories for the Task Area. Prepare reports and respond to data calls and taskers regarding laboratory safety, facility work orders, cold-chain storage, and logistical operations. Organize, maintain, and update electronic database for freezer inventories to include end-user profiles. Process, track, and maintain formal documentation for samples received from internal and external collaborators. Coordinate ordering of general lab supplies and consumables for the Task Area as required. Maintain database of current pricing for supplies under contract and purchasing agreements.

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:     

U.S. Citizenship is required  Must have a favorable adjudicated National Agency Check with Inquiries or an equivalent or higher investigation in accordance with Army Directive 2014-05.
