Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior/Lead Research Scientist to join our instrument calibration and validation team in support of Earth Observation missions at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Apply now and be a part of a mission that enhances our understanding of the Earth and its systems Key Responsibilities: + Support instrument characterization, assessing instrument health and functionality, and addressing anomalies promptly. + Conduct routine on-orbit calibration monitoring and implement necessary updates to maintain optimal instrument performance. + Develop and refine calibration algorithms and data processing codes for remote sensing applications, as well as develop innovative research studies. + Collaborate with the Instrument Operations Team to maintain instrument health, schedule calibration spacecraft maneuvers, and ensure long-term performance. + Work within a team of scientists and engineers, fostering collaborative problem-solving to advance mission objectives. + Author and present conference papers and journal publications to document operations and research findings. Required Qualifications: + Ph.D. in astronomy and physics with experience in remote sensing sciences. + Proficiency in data analysis, scientific reporting, and programming. + Proficiency with SPICE software. + Strong Python programming skills. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills. + U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is required. Preferred Qualifications: + Experience with IDL, C/C++, and Unix/Linux shell scripting. + Familiarity with Windows shell/batch scripting and automation.
