We are seeking a talented Multidisciplinary Engineering Manager to join our team. This position is flexible to either California or Minnesota in Abbott’s Ventures Organization.
Our business purpose is to restore health and improve quality of life by designing and providing device and management solutions for treating structural heart disease.
What You’ll Work On
Utilize your engineering expertise to lead and contribute to the design and development of Abbott’s first Transeptal Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement technology TMVR as the technology advances from early human use to commercialization.Manage and execute development work.Oversee and conduct analyses to ensure design specifications and performance requirements are scalable.Provide technical insights on manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and engineering planning, highlighting their advantages and limitations.Guide and mentor direct reports in selecting and applying techniques to solve problems and make sound design recommendations.Offer leadership and mentorship to other engineers and technicians.Supervise and coach reports to grow their capacity while actively participating in tasks alongside other engineers and technicians as needed.In addition:
Hire and retains a diverse, highly qualified staff and provides ongoing performance feedback.Lead and support project planning as required to ensure R&D deliverables are achieved in support of the broader program goals.Ensure spend is tracked and accounted for appropriately.Represent the R&D function in the support and resolution of CAPA’s and PER’s as needed.Oversee the execution of empirical and experimental analysis.Oversee the execution and conceptualize new devices using material knowledge and innovativemechanical designs.Work with outside consultants, vendors, and the medical community.Ensure requirements of TDP and/or PDP are followed as necessary.Coordinate and manage resources to meet detailed project timelines and milestones.Support animal and bench testing and clinical evaluations.Ensure that the quality system requirements are being met.Support design reviews and physician visits as needed.Define product specifications including justification and supportive testingDevelop test methodsMaintain a safe and professional work environment.Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in EngineeringMinimum 10 years of experience in R&D engineering or related fields.Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes and designing for manufacturability.Project leadership and management skills required.Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced, changing environment.Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback to build positive relationships and improve business results.Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines in a timely manner.Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills, and the ability to hold others accountable.Ability to travel approximately 10%, including internationally.Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Bioengineering is preferred.Experience designing and testing medical devices, preferably interventional cardiology devices.Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.Apply Now

The base pay for this position is $146,700.00 – $293,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
