Your role and responsibilities

We are looking for a Senior R&D Engineer at ABB Oy, Marine & Ports division in Vuosaari, Helsinki. In this role, you will assume technical responsibility for R&D projects focused on decarbonization technologies, including marine shore power systems, energy storage systems, and shaft generator systems. The R&D projects will concentrate on the electrification of marine vessels and terminals, as well as digital optimization. You will be part of the Technology team within ABB Marine and Ports Business Line Service and Digital.The marine industry has set ambitious sustainability and carbon neutrality targets in response to the global climate challenge. A key part of ABB’s 2030 sustainability strategy is to support customers and suppliers to reduce their emissions. You will be mainly accountable for:•Solving multi-disciplinary industrial problems and reviewing different technologies for implementing new products or software •Acting as a technical leader of product development within electrification system development•Performing a variety of challenging technology/engineering assignments, typically utilizing advanced, innovative techniques •Writing technical product specifications based on market requirements•Managing and creating product documentation•Understanding what creates customer value, and working to improve operations and increase customer satisfaction•Spreading your technical/scientific knowledge and assisting colleagues in applying specialist processes and tools to ensure results •Submitting patent applications to strengthen ABB’s strategic position, and helping to safeguard ABB's intellectual property

Qualifications for the role

Good knowledge of electrical power systems and variable frequency drivesM.Sc. degree in electrical/automation engineering or similar Experience in power and energy management control systems is an advantage in the roleWillingness to learn and do practical activities, self-driven and motivated by challenges Organized way of working and willingness to take responsibility Fluent spoken and written English skills, Finnish skills are advantage in the roleWillingness to travel occasionally
