Job Description:

Join us to contribute to Merck’s enterprise priority of driving innovation through data & digital. In R&D, the promise of bringing more medicines to more patients faster is closely linked with the ability to maximize the use of our data for improved decision making using data analytics & AI. Well-structured, findable and easily accessible data is its core foundation, and we have therefore embarked on a mission to accelerate the provisioning of high-quality data. Your role will be to design, implement and enhance our data architecture as well as data flows, structures and processing. This will involve designing data models and flows based on important R&D data standards like HL7 FHIR with the goal to increase interoperability and streamline regulatory, quality and safety processes.

 

You will also have the opportunity to act as the overall tech lead for data-centric solutions that utilize AI, web interface or analytics components. For this, you will work closely with our product owners as well as R&D stakeholders to optimize the way we gather, structure and leverage data. The data repositories, data flows and data-centric solutions you create will serve a broad variety of reporting, analytics, decision support and (Generative) AI solutions.

 

In creating these data solutions, you will be able to leverage a Data & AI ecosystem built on modern AWS, Informatica, Oracle and Snowflake technology and become part of a team of highly skilled experts.

 

You will collaborate closely with the headquarter-based Data, Digital & IT team as well as developer teams located in Europe, US and India. You will be the single point of accountability for the technical design and implementation of the data flows, repositories and data-centric solutions in your area. In your role as a tech lead, you will translate requirements into efficient designs and will then work with our data engineering team to make the designs become a reality.

 

 

Qualification, Experience & Skills:

Master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, or related subjects6+ years of experience as a data warehouse expert, lead data engineer, data architect or data product ownerExperience in designing complex data models and data flow architectures and in guiding data engineers in the implementation of scalable, reliable and efficient data flowsExperience with Healthcare R&D incl. the use of data standards and frameworks like HL7 FHIR, SPOR and othersExperience in working with data & analytics solutions such as AWS (especially Glue, Lambda, DMS), Oracle, Informatica (PowerCenter and IICS) and Snowflake. Experience working with Azure Dev Ops and warehouse automation tools (e.g. dbt, coalesce) is a plusStrong knowledge of SQL, with knowledge of Python (in particular pandas and PySpark) being a plusStrong drive to think of data flows from end-to-end, i.e. from ingestion to data modelling and solution deliveryExcellent English communication skills and ability to effectively communicate both with R&D scientists and software engineersExperience working in virtual and agile teams
