Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Program Manager is responsible for effectively managing all aspects of online, hybrid, and site-based academic programs, and acts as the liaison for the School of Professional Studies working with colleges to ensure an integrated and effective assessment for academic programs. The major responsibilities can be grouped into areas of program support, student services, compliance activities, and quality assurance.
The Senior Program Manager reporting to the Director, Program Management is responsible for overseeing all aspects of online, hybrid, and off-campus academic programs, serving as a key liaison between the School of Professional Studies and academic colleges. This role ensures seamless program planning, execution, and assessment while maintaining compliance with institutional policies. Core responsibilities include program support, student services, compliance activities, and quality assurance, with a focus on enhancing the effectiveness and visibility of academic offerings.
A primary function of this position is program support, which involves managing assigned programs, forecasting enrollment trends, and serving as a strategist for program enhancements. The Senior Program Manager collaborates closely with academic leadership and SPS teams to implement initiatives that strengthen student engagement and success, program quality, and program visibility.
Beyond program oversight, the Senior Program Manager plays a vital role in student services, working with campus units including admissions, academic advising, Atkins Library, and OneIT to enhance the student experience. Responsibilities also include supporting new student orientations and promoting faculty training in collaboration with the Center for Teaching and Learning. Moreover, this role ensures quality assurance by analyzing academic program performance data, supporting curriculum design quality standards and accreditation standards, and staying current with evolving technologies and best practices in online and hybrid education.
In terms of compliance, the Senior Program Manager works with academic departments to prepare necessary documentation for UNC General Administration and SACSCOC accreditation. The role requires effective coordination with campus offices such as Admissions, Registrar, and Institutional Research to ensure accurate data reporting. This position is ideal for a strategic, detail-oriented professional who is passionate about academic program management and student success.
Minimum Experience / Education:
+ Master’s degree and at least two years of work experience in the administration or direct support of educational programs.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
+ Master’s degree in higher education, learning and development, adult education, educational research/evaluation, or a closely related field.
+ Work experience in academic/online education at an institution of higher education.
+ Budgeting experience is desirable.
+ Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
+ Attention to detail.
+ Diplomacy and professionalism.
+ Exceptionally strong organizational and analytical skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
+ Ability to work well under pressure.

+ Applicants must have experience in and/or knowledge of: contemporary models for academic online teaching and learning, including the delivery of support services to students remote from the campus, a variety of academic/online technologies, marketing principles and strategies and the delivery of programs online and at off campus sites, and to adult learners.
