Senior Professional, Europe Controllers Group

Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Professional to join the finance team within Mastercard Europe. The Senior Professional will be a key member of the Europe Controllers Group, which is responsible for Mastercard Europe’s financial reporting and the integrity of its financials. The role will report to the Manager, Controller for Mastercard Europe SA and South Eastern Europe.
The role holder will have a broad range of financial reporting and accounting responsibilities and will collaborate with colleagues across the business to meet objectives. The role can be based either in Mastercard’s regional headquarters in Waterloo, Belgium, or in Mastercard’s London office.
Main duties
-\tPrepare US to local GAAP conversions for Mastercard Europe SA and subsidiaries within scope, and prepare financial statements with the assistance of external service providers
-\tComplete various financial reporting tasks for Belgium, including the preparation of the Mastercard Europe Switch (processing activities) balance sheet for the European Central Bank
-\tComplete monthly reporting to the National Bank of Belgium, and prepare the annual Management Reports and Workers’ Council reports
-\tColloborate effectively with auditors and external service providers to ensure objectives and deadlines are met
-\tSupport accounting accuracy by reviewing trial balances, and work with GBSC (shared service centre) to rectifying issues that are identified
-\tSupport tax compliance for Europe, by monitoring transfer pricing compliance
-\tPrepare monthly and quarterly closing entries, including VAT, FX, and deferred tax adjustments
-\tComplete SOX control reviews to support the accuracy of net revenue accounting in the South Eastern Europe region. This includes the review of new agreements with customers and the ongoing monitoring of existing deals
-\tAs part of month-end close, ensure that P&L and balance sheet movements are consistent with underlying customer agreements and Mastercard’s accounting policies
-\tSupport the wider Controllers team to meet its objectives by assisting with process improvement projects, and by providing guidance and assistance to colleagues
-\tAssist a variety of departments, including Tax, Treasury, and Business Development Finance with ad-hoc requests
-\tAssist with additional tasks as and when required.
All about you
-\tQualified accountant, ACA or ACCA preferred
-\tRelevant work experience in an accounting or accounting adjacent role, ideally within audit, controllership, or financial reporting
-\tKnowledgeable and experienced with complex accounting concepts
-\tStrong excel skills, and experience with a variety of IT systems
-\tData analytics (PowerBI, Alteryx, Macro) skills would be a huge plus
-\tAn effective communicator and able to work collaboratively with colleagues
-\tExcellent organisational skills and attention to detail
-\tAn inquisitive mindset, with a focus on continuous improvement
-\tFluency in English is required. Additional languages, especially French, would be a plus.
