Since team projects include both new products and process development and the refinement of existing products, the incumbent's job responsibilities necessitates communication with a wide variety of individuals. Team activities will require contact with Production Departments, Prototype Build, Design/CAD, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Financial, Engineering Test, and Management. In addition, there will be outside contacts with component vendors, engineering consultants, and most importantly the customer. The incumbent therefore must possess the necessary oral and written language skills to communicate clearly and effectively in a manner which generates positive results.
The incumbent is responsible for the planning, scheduling, execution, and coordination of all phases of his/her work from initiation of a project through production. Within the team environment, this includes defining the product, product design, and aiding in process selection. To facilitate product development, the incumbent must actively support and execute concurrent engineering activities within the Bellwood Plant and support those same activities with both vendors and customers. The incumbent is expected to rearrange priorities based on the changing needs of the team. As the product expert within the team environment, the incumbent provides technical product leadership to new and existing products. At times, it may be necessary for the incumbent to devise new and creative approaches to solve problems, to design new products, to utilize new materials, and to make cost reductions. The incumbent is expected to be able to resolve problems and overcome obstacles with the help of team support.
A continuing awareness of existing technology within the incumbent's area of specialty must be maintained through exposure to professional journals, attendance at trade shows, and formal course work. Due to the exposure to highly sensitive technical information, the incumbent must be a person of high integrity. Teamwork is essential to obtaining the required support needed to provide solutions to problems encountered.
Product Management:
• Generates competitive design concepts for new products
• Generates concepts for cost reductions to support BBOS goals
• Defines product performance requirements and specifications
• Insures that product drawings and layouts adhere to the model drawing formats
• Insures that drawings are released in a timely manner
• Adheres to Design Standards in creating concepts where possible
• Where necessary, uses Design Manual to design unique applications
• Develops SFMEA's and DFMEA's for all products
• Assists team in concept selection
• Directs benchmarking of competitive products
• Directs DOE robustness studies
Project Management:
• Coordinates Layout of Extended Evidence Manuals
• Creates and maintains program plans through the use of Microsoft Project
• Completes work in a timely manner
• Prepares and presents technical reports with conclusions and recommendations
• Prepares PPAP reports
• Supports the APQP process
• Directs product testing through writing test requests, analyzing results drawing conclusions and writing test reports
Problem Prevention:
• Evaluates, analyzes and initiates corrective action relative to design and performance
• Performs failure analysis
• Continually improves abilities to solve problems and understand more about the customer's products
• Directs and 8D or 5P team
• Makes permanent and irreversible changes to systems to prevent recurrence of problems following each 8D or 5P
Customer Relations:
• Assists in completing RFQ's within BBOS time goals
• Assists in on-time delivery of prototype parts
• Conducts customer reviews on product and project status
• Schedules and directs customer validation
• Continues to promote and present proposals for complete component system to customer
