This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of our Design System as a **System Designer**. Our Design System is the cornerstone of delivering a seamless experience across SumUp's world-class products and services. As part of the newly established **Design System Team**, you’ll be instrumental in crafting exceptional merchant and customer experiences, influencing SumUp’s overall design direction, and ensuring consistency across all user interfaces—including illustrations, motion, UX content, and accessibility best practices.

 

In this role, you will:

Lead the vision for SumUp’s **Design System**, evolving and expanding our component library to elevate both mobile and web experiences. Develop and execute UI components and UX patterns with precision, considering various use cases, OS developments, and emerging design trends. Collaborate proactively with designers across the organization to gather feedback, optimize experiences, and ensure consistency across touchpoints and platforms. Support cross-functional teams in the implementation of the design system, ensuring scalability and ease of use. Champion the use of the Design System throughout the company, maintaining comprehensive documentation to facilitate its seamless adoption.

 

Who you’ll work with:

**Senior Design Leaders** to shape the look and feel of SumUp’s experience, using your interaction, visual, and prototyping skills to build a reusable UI component library and interaction patterns. **Brand Experts** to create and refine iconography and illustration assets. **Motion and Content Experts** to enrich our guidelines and ensure consistency across the platform. **Design System Engineers** to implement the system in a scalable, accessible way, reflecting SumUp’s commitment to inclusivity.

 

Your Profile:

5+ years of experience as a **UX/UI Designer**, with strong expertise in visual principles and systems design, demonstrated through an impressive portfolio or case studies. Proven ability to design and implement top-tier design components and UX patterns, with a commitment to high-quality standards and a shared vision. A strong advocate for UI consistency, collaborating effectively with designers, engineers, product managers, and executives through writing, visuals, and presentations. Skilled at finding balance between communication, persuasion, and negotiation to deliver scalable, usable design solutions. Excellent communicator, able to convey decisions and design directions clearly to a variety of stakeholders. Comfortable in a fast-paced environment, adaptable to shifting priorities and business needs. BA or MA in Design (or a related field) or equivalent experience through extensive product design work.
