Senior Principal Weld Engineer

We are currently looking for a Senior Principal Weld Engineer able to support our Combat Vehicle and Weapon Systems product lines. Here we value our workforce and their well-being. This position is currently working 3 days / week on-site and up to 2 days / week remotely on a 9/80 schedule with every other Friday off out of our San Jose, CA office. As a Senior Principal Weld Engineer, you will: + Apply advanced knowledge of engineering and scientific principles and practices in area of specialized expertise to develop innovative solutions to complex technical problems. + Review engineering schematics for correctness, producibility, performance and best practices. + Provide technical leadership, consultation, or guidance to specialized engineering groups and other technical personnel. + Conceptualize, create, and analyze designs to ensure engineering projects meet technical, cost, quality, and performance requirements. + Prepare, present, and defend project technical results and recommendations to customers. + Participate in formal technical reviews. + Initiate and maintain external contacts with key experts and officials of other companies, national labs, academic institutions, and government agencies. + Perform technical analysis, testing, calculations, and evaluation of results to solve complex engineering problems, using specialized equipment, or by creating computer programs, models, or simulations. + Prepare technical and cost portions of proposals related to area of expertise. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant engineering discipline(s), industry practices, trends, and applications. Advises senior management on new developments and programs. + May direct the work of less senior technical personnel. + Provide engineering and technical support for welding operations in fabrication/manufacture of products. + Research and develop concepts, designs, materials, functions, and performance, fabrication test, and modification of products. Research and recommend weld equipment, identifying limitations and capabilities. Documentation is in a digital form and stored in a Windows/Microsoft environment. + Prepare, conduct, and evaluate Weld Engineering analysis/documentation, test/examination, performance and procedure qualification in compliance with customer requirements and applicable welding standards and specifications. **Required Education, Experience, & Skills** + Bachelor's degree in welding engineering, materials engineering or a related metallurgical field and 8 years of related work experience. + First-hand knowledge and experience with weld construction and processes with a focus on ferrous and non-ferrous arc welding techniques. Knowledge of aluminum alloys, carbon and stainless steel metallurgy. An understanding of welding codes and their application in manufacturing and quality control. Familiarity with Weld Procedure Specifications (WPSs) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs) + Ability to identify, define, interpret, and resolve engineering problems involving conflicting design/contractual/policy or technical requirements across functional areas and with potentially difficult coordination requirements. + Strong communication skills verbally and in writing with internal and external customers. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office products. + May consider candidates with fewer years experience for a more junior role or additional years experience for a more senior role. **Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills** + Specialized knowledge of advanced welding processes including friction stir, laser and electron beam welding. + Specialized knowledge of aluminum, alloy and stainless steel metallurgy and joining processes. + Specialized knowledge of destructive and non-destructive inspection & qualification techniques as applicable to welded joints. + Experience with combat vehicles or similar military structures. **Pay Information** Full-Time Salary Range: $142205 - $241749 Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
