Job SummaryThe Senior Crafts Fabricator is responsible for applying several craft skills for work required to resolve system problems or potential failures, or when necessary as part of facilities construction, demolition, renovation, installation, or maintenance activities. Performs work assigned by supervisory staff responsible for facilities operation and maintenance, in particular the duties of the skilled trades associated with directing the installation, modification, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of various systems on site. Works under general supervision, with minimal graphic or written instructions. Must know and follow recognized procedures and techniques for work in more than one craft, and apply knowledge of regulatory codes and requirements as well as knowledge of Battelle systems to accomplish job assignments.
Responsibilities Performs duties involving the installation, modification, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of systems installed at Battelle. Demonstrates extensive knowledge of Battelle equipment and facilities, and familiarity with the varying requirements of the different laboratory and service functions at Battelle.Performs the more complex craft duties that typically require initiative and creativity for successful accomplishment.Conducts self-development activities sufficient to maintain craft specialty skills.Assists in training and coordinating activities of less skilled personnel.Develops cost estimates for small to medium size projects and provides all pertinent information to the affected departments to assist in their budgeting process.Performs special tasks requiring similar duties and responsibilities, as assigned. Serves as a backup for the Crafts/Maintenance Leader.Key Qualifications Must have demonstrated experience and expertise handling distribution and control systems or building improvements, with 5 or more years of journeyman level experience.Must have knowledge of regulatory codes and requirements; a thorough Journeyman level knowledge and skill in control systems and/or construction, renovation, and maintenance activities, and working knowledge and skill in additional functional areas; Journeyman level skills in installation, and fabrication techniques typical in the trade, and ability to perform mathematical computations of the trade; knowledge of proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools related to job functions; and strong demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints and systems diagrams.Must have skill in effectively directing assigned personnel; ability to observe and practice good working habits and maintain security of buildings, systems, and project work; ability to carry out assignments with minimum supervision, demonstrate problem-solving skills, and exercise sound judgment.May also be required to provide cost estimates for small to medium size projects, and provide relevant information to other departments for budgeting purposes.Physical ability to perform medium difficulty work, including lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling work materials and tools; ability to climb ladders, maintain balance, stoop, kneel and crouch to gain access to work areas; ability to handle and read meters and tool accessories; acuity of vision for close work; depth of perception, field of vision, and color vision for making repairs or modifications to equipment.
