Senior Member of Technical Staff- Platform Software QA

The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented and experienced engineer with expertise in validating operating system, hypervisor, or software solution compatibility with x86 based CPUs.  The ideal candidate will have excellent programming skills and a proven track record of designing and implementing automated frameworks for testing CPU features, device drivers, and Linux kernels in bare metal and virtualized environments.

As part of a small and supportive team, you will have the opportunity to become a subject matter expert and own testing of core components of the hardware platform, validating their function, compatibility, and reliability across critical layers of the product.  You will help drive high-quality standards and contribute to defining and executing an effective overall CPU test strategy for the team.

 

About the Team

The Platform Software QA team at Nutanix consists of 3 team members, including the hiring manager, all located in the vibrant SF Bay Area. The team’s culture is described as small but supportive, with members working independently or collaboratively on assigned deliverables or focus areas. They also engage in cross-functional collaboration with other teams within the organization, fostering a dynamic and cohesive work environment.

You will report to the Staff Engineer within the Platform Software QA team. This role is hybrid, based in our San Jose headquarters, where you will be expected to be in the office 2-3 days per week. This setup allows for a balance of in-person collaboration and remote work flexibility, ensuring team connectivity and productivity.

There are no travel requirements for this role, providing a stable and predictable work environment for the successful candidate.

 

Your Role

Work with cross-functional software engineering and hardware delivery teams to enable support for new CPU generations and technologies with the Nutanix Acropolis hypervisor kernelContribute to test plan design, test framework development, and automated tests suites for validating new CPU generations and feature compatibility with the Nutanix software stackBuild and maintain diverse regression test environments to ensure ongoing software compatibility across supported CPU generations and featuresEvaluate opportunities to make the Nutanix software stack more reliable and performant via OS level tuning and configurationWork closely with the software development teams and hardware partners to analyze test failures and customer-found defectsDevelop expertise in hardware and software solutions that govern, monitor, and take action on anomalies in the system

 

What You Will Bring

BS or MS in Computer Science or related field7-12 years of industry experience in a similar roleHands-on experience in design and development of test frameworks for CPU and Linux kernel testingGood understanding of x86 server architectures, storage, networking, operating systems and server virtualization technologiesSolid understanding of Linux OSes and hardware-related sub-systemsStrong knowledge of Python or other scripting languagesExperience with Linux KVM virtualization or distributed systems is a plusExcellent problem-solving and debugging skillsStrong communication and collaboration abilities

 

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between USD $ 148,000 and USD $ 296,400 per year.

However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
