The Medical Affairs department at Novo Nordisk is devoted to improving patient outcomes and providing medical guidance to the organization. We work closely with healthcare professionals, key opinion leaders, and international professional associations to ensure the highest standards of medical knowledge and communication. The role will report to Group Manager, Medical Advisor Group, Diabetes, Obesity & MASH.
The position
As our Senior Medical Advisor / Medical Advisor, you are to provide early medical expertise and advice based on interactions with KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders), independent professional associations and patient advocacy associations as necessary. Partner within Global and Japan Medical Affairs, cross-functionally with sales and marketing, and partner companies. Drive scientific dialogue through medical information, MSL (Medical Science Liaison), KOL engagements, medical education, publications, evidence generation activities including RWE (Real World Evidence), and advisory boards.
Provide guidance and training to other Medical Affairs colleagues on the successful development and execution of effective medical strategies in the assigned therapy area. Actively interface with multiple external stakeholders to implement and apply the scientific and clinical data to back the therapeutic and business interests. Also, ensure strategic alignment of the therapy area with local and global plans and ensure sound scientific and medical guidance is provided for marketing strategies for the therapy area. Discuss relevant early development data with external medical and scientific experts, as well as identify and regularly engage with clinical experts in relevant Therapy areas (TAs) to optimizing the feasibility process for the clinical trial conduct. Provide leadership in the scientific community within New TAs on relevant topics. Also, provide and lead scientific/medical feedback to requests, and optimization of internal scientific resources for internal use. Contribute to delivering successful clinical trials in collaboration with clinical operations including driving scientific discussions at site selection and initiation visits and performing ad hoc visits. Recommend potential investigators/KOLs, backing customer contact/management to maintain high quality standards in Japan. Also, identify gaps to be filled by clinical and outcomes research. Review and approve ISS (Innovative Supply Solutions), outcomes protocols and study reports. Plan and develops evidence generation activities including RWE. Leverage knowledge of clinical practice, KOL insights, competitor scientific activity, and future directions in healthcare to collaborate with marketing as well as other Novo Nordisk Japan functions to create brand strategies, plans and tactics. Support team in delivering internal medical training in collaboration with stakeholders. Guide development of therapy area publication plan aligned with local and global plans and ensures timely execution. Input into KOL engagement planning, execution and tracking and collaborates with internal stakeholders and global counterparts for alignment. Plan therapeutic line/product annual budget, expenditures, capacity projections and operating expenses.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or above is required. (Master’s degree or above is required if no experience in medical affairs.) PhD or above in science-related fields is preferred. 5 years’ or above experience in Medical Affairs or Clinical Development within the pharmaceutical industry is preferred. If the candidate has only Academia experience, specilialty in the relevant therapeutic area (e.g. cardiovascular, diabetes, endocrinology, nephrology hepatology) is mandatory. Basic marketing knowledge and business mindset are required. Proficiency in Japanese and business level of English (oral, reading and written) is essential.
