Job Description
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to contribute to our industrial HVAC & utility system design projects on a full-time, direct basis at our office in Newark, DE. Flexibility to sit in Philadelphia as a last resort. Some hybrid flexibility is available. Project types are mostly industrial in nature, such as pharmaceutical and chemical industries. This candidate must be a technically focused mechanical engineer to help with production while leading the design floor.
Responsibilities
+ Contribute to the design of mechanical utility & HVAC systems, including sizing and selection of building mechanical equipment (such as air handlers, chillers, pumps, fans, cooling towers, compressors, dryers, boilers, VRF & DX split systems, and terminal devices).
+ Perform a variety of engineering calculations (e.g., HVAC load & ventilation air calculations, psychometrics, pipe flow/pressure drop, ductwork sizing, ductwork static pressure, hydraulic analysis for piping sizing and layout).
+ Utilize building load calculation software (such as Trane Trace).
+ Develop building energy models when necessary.
+ Apply knowledge of relevant MEP industry codes & standards (e.g., ASHRAE, ICC Codes, NFPA, SMACNA).
+ Develop and write equipment & project specifications.
+ Interact with internal team members as well as external stakeholders (i.e., clients, vendors, and contractors).
+ Provide subject matter expertise (SME) and technical guidance to other Engineers and Designers in the MEP group.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
+ 8+ years of professional experience.
+ Proficiency with engineering tools like AutoCAD; Microstation and Revit are a plus.
+ In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, air handlers, chillers, pumps, fans, cooling towers, compressors, dryers, boilers, load calculations, flow, ductwork, and BIM.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly preferred.
Work Environment
Open floor space environment with areas of 4 desks with dividers. Everyone is very willing to help and teach where needed. Collaborative environment with around 20 people. Flexible hours as long as 8 hours are completed within the window of 6 a.m. - 6 p.m., but presence is required for most 'prime' hours. The dress code is business casual. The MEP division consists of 30 people, with 8-10 engineers and the rest are designers.
