Implementing Wits University s strategic advancement and fundraising plans to support the realisation of the 2033 strategic plan and associated strategic projects; continuing, growing and building on the University s centenary campaign both in South Africa and globally; and firmly positioning the University to be locally relevant and globally competitive well into its next century.
Working closely with the Director: Development and Fundraising, the Senior Manager will play a pivotal role in driving the growth of this external investment, utilising his/her leadership, planning, operations, administrative and budgetary responsibilities in the Unit, in particular as it pertains to its operational systems and practices. This will involve key strategic, developmental and operational support for securing funds from multiple sources to support the centenary, and subsequent, fundraising campaigns and the wide range of activities with which it is associated
Brief DescriptionKey Responsibilities:
Work with the Director to develop and implement the University s fundraising strategy Provide support to ensure the successful implementation of fundraising strategies for the Centenary, and subsequent, Campaigns Provide support for strategic projects and events in in collaboration with the Advancement Team and the Vice Chancellor s Office, Faculty and Strategic fundraisers Ensure that all donations and sponsorships secured are in line with University Policies and are dealt with in compliance with legislative requirements, and that donations are thanked and recognized promptly and appropriately Work with the Director and Campaign Manager to develop Fundraising collateral, proposals and cases for support. Develop and manage current and future offshore offices in line with the implementation of the fundraising strategy. Work with the Campaign Manager to ensure that appropriate prospect research, identification and analysis is done. Manage, analyse, improve and deploy all processes dealing with prospective investors around the world. Assemble up-to-date investor analyses, both local and international. Deploy and monitor within the fundraising teams Evaluate, maintain and improve the various information systems, deploy for income generating purposes and recommend timeous adjustments Maintain oversight of faculty and institutional strategic development projects and initiatives Report on progress and status at any stage to the University Executive Ensure effective staff management co-ordinated with efficient systems, IT and financial management to support DFO campaigns and unit capabilities Ensure general HR management, recommending staff appointment and terminations Manage DFO budgets within overall DFO Financial Management Ensure all fundraising, development support, IT and Finance Teams are functioning optimally according to the strategic direction of the University.
Requirements:
A relevant postgraduate qualification in relevant fields, such as fundraising, sales, promotions, business development and/or corporate communications 8 to 10 Years at a Middle Manager level and 3 years at a Senior Manager/Executive level. Proven experience in securing high levels of investment in strategic university-type fundraising projects (ie. Academic and Student Funding, and Capital Development Projects). In-depth understanding of donor/investor market and associated complexities. Proven capacity to lead dynamic teams. Proven advanced capacity (with demonstrable success record) to manage, improve and develop financial, project and customer relationship management processes and systems.Preferences:
Work experience in a Higher Education Environment.
