Senior Manager, Producer

Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Senior Manager Producer is responsible for translating scientific data and information into broadly accessible content that informs the public, donors, partners, policymakers, media and numerous other stakeholders about JAX’s mission and the importance of biomedical research, inspiring them to help advance JAX’s impact on human health. The Producer has a critical role in implementing communications and public relations (PR) plans that accelerate the accurate and timely reporting and promotion of JAX scientific news to increase awareness of JAX’s mission and support strategic priorities.

Key Responsibilities (What you contribute)

Employ superb writing, editing and news production skills and expertise to bring to life and package JAX news, activities and stories for multi-media channels including print, digital and broadcast proactively and in response to media inquiries, the news cycle and other drivers.

In partnership with the director, create and implement a program to increase awareness of JAX’s role as a trusted resource in media coverage of biomedical research, science and medicine.

Manage daily activities, ensuring that all external communications are executed with excellence and are aligned with the overall awareness and engagement strategy.

In close collaboration with the communications group, working across the communications and marketing team and with colleagues JAX-wide, identify, train and prepare internal experts to create and deliver newsroom materials including releases, alerts, faculty perspectives videos and for media opportunities.

Partner with the communications group to engage JAX faculty, experts and executives in the media and public relations (PR) strategy, including messaging and media training.

Assist the team in responding to media inquiries and requests for interviews, including conducting pre-interviews, scheduling and providing research and talking points to experts as needed.

Capture videos aligned with the highest standards of broadcast journalism and serve as an interviewer for JAX videos, coaching faculty, experts and leaders on messaging and to provide concise and clear sound bites.

Contribute to the content strategy by producing written content and videos that can be leveraged for a variety of purposes and across numerous platforms and publications.

Proactively share scientific news and information with communications colleagues to support strategic goals and inform and contribute to PR and content strategies, providing insight on messaging opportunities and guidance on stories to share with a variety of target audiences.

Report from and cover scientific conferences, meetings, JAX events and other activities as needed.

Stay abreast of current news and the latest developments in the field and various areas of biomedical research to ensure JAX’s relevance and responsiveness in the space.

Contribute to the management of a JAX-wide style guide, including guidelines on tone, grammar, punctuation and organizational standards and ensure adherence.

Partner across the communications and marketing team and JAX-wide and work collaboratively to help achieve goals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (What you're good at)

6-8 years of extensive experience in news writing, editing and production with proven results of progressive success in securing coverage on behalf of organizations.

Experience and fluency in a nonprofit, biomedical research or healthcare setting is strongly preferred. Comfortable working with research faculty

Keenly attuned to news and activities in the biomedical research community to implement positioning and responsive media relations tactics.

Energized to inspire the public, donors, partners and researchers through media coverage of JAX breakthroughs and activities.

Excellent interpersonal and client relation skills; experience working with high-profile researchers and executive leaders.

Leadership skills to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders with a focus on excellence.

Thrive in a fast-paced environment with the ability to multi-task and balance competing priorities with multiple deadlines.

Must be intellectually curious and have the desire to share new knowledge and insights.

Proven experience recommending and identifying scientific visual elements (photography, design) to engage broad audiences.

Meticulous attention to detail and ability to write and edit for accuracy, clarity, style and tone.

Thorough research and analytical skills.

Strong project management skills and experience.

Outstanding planning, organization and project management skills.

Proficient with Microsoft 365, Adobe Creative Cloud and other tools such as CMS, social media management and analytics platforms, etc.

Ability to travel as necessary.

Pay Range:  $96,945 - $162,310 based on prior years of related experience
