Why is this role important?

The Transport Senior Manager leads the team of Managers who execute on day-to-day operations while supporting the Sr. Director in strategic initiatives. In addition to providing business support to retail, the management team, distribution centre and other key stakeholders, the Senior Manager will ensure key performance indicators are achieved through a relentless pursuit of driving efficiencies. The successful candidate will bring proven experience in quickly adapting to new environments and creating a positive working environment for all colleagues while achieving positive results.   

Operations Management

Lead transport operations encompassing inbound and outbound order flow from dispatch and execution to carrier managementResponsible for effective labour planning and execution, including both LCL Drivers and 3rd party carrier partners (where applicable)Accountable for promoting and adhering to Health and Safety, Food Safety and environmental audits Develop relationships with Customers and Carriers, with a service, performance and partnership focusContinually seek out and capitalize on opportunities to improve all aspects of operations in a multi-department environment and services provided to customers.Evaluate performance of Transportation Managers and dispatch team and provide necessary feedback and coaching to achieve targets; evaluate roles to ensure clear expectations and optimal accountabilities are assignedProvide direction to 3pl site management teams regarding transport/yard operationsPlan, organize and deploy available labour and resources to meet budget and service levels.Investigate performance issues and complaints regarding drivers, following up with appropriate carrier as needed.Develop process improvement initiatives to promote productivity gains, reduction of costs and new methods of doing business.Responsible for yard managementWork collaboratively within the network to innovate and develop opportunities to fully leverage a resource constrained environmentBe the model through our Blue Culture JourneyEnsure all Company policies and procedures are followed


What you bring:

3 to 5 years in a transportation operations role, with 2-3 years leading direct reports 

Post secondary education in operation management or equivalent experience. 

Strong focus on customer communication and relationship management 

Strong ability to motivate and develop leaders 

Ability to plan, organize and prioritize a heavy workload 

Ability to travel as required 

Strong analytical skills, with the ability to implement processes to optimize efficiencies 

Computer skills, including MS office programs, WMS and other related systems required 

Flexibility to work irregular or extended hours including nights, weekends and holidays as needed 

Knowledge of Collective Agreement, or previous experience in a unionized environment
