Senior Manager, Internal Shariah Control

Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, financial crime and regulatory compliance, market and reputation risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.

Role Purpose:
Senior Shariah Manager as primary risk steward for technical adherence to the requirements of Shariah is expected to show strong leadership quality by organising, supporting and ensuring that all new Islamic Finance transactions undertaken by Global Banking and Markets, CMB out of HSBC Group are as per GB M FIM and adhere to the shariah standards acceptable to the HBME Internal Shariah Supervision Committee Global Shariah Supervision Committee (‘Shariah Committees’) and support Head of Islamic Finance Control in discharging oversight responsibilities over the Shariah Compliant Business. A key focus of the role is to ensure all the necessary controls relating to Islamic finance transactions are robust and compliant.

Duties Responsibilities:
• To ensure and assist Head of Islamic Finance Control that products and financing transactions’ documentation assigned by managers are Shariah compliant and are in line with general or specific guidelines/approvals of the Shariah Committee.
• To ensure and assist Head of Islamic Finance Control in the implementation of Islamic banking regulations issued Higher Shariah Authority and CB UAE
• To assist in ensuring implementation of agreed Shariah Review Process by all business units and to coordinate for Shariah audit conducted by the Shariah Committee and internal compliance staff.
• To assist in managing the relationship with Shariah scholars, industry building organisations and lawyers/law firms.
• To implement the Group compliance policy locally by containing compliance risk in liaison with the Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer, ensuring adequate compliance resources and training, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators.
• To conduct Shariah research requested by ISSC and contribute for the development of products, processes and policies in an advisory capacity.
• To provide continuous learning and training in Shariah matters to the key internal stakeholders, senior management, board members including all relevant staff.
• To act as Secretariat to the ISSC and the SCGC and finalise agenda and prepare the minutes of the ISSC and SCGC meeting.
• Understand, follow, and demonstrate compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations, policies and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business.

2. Minimum 6-7 years experiences of Internal Shariah Control functions; Knowledge in AAOIFI Shariah Standards is added advantage.
3. Proficiency in English and Good Spoken in Arabic.
4. Professional Certification from AAOIFI or CIBAFI is preferable.
