Senior Manager, HRIS

Your Opportunity as the Senior Manager, HRIS

Lead our HRIS organization and reporting functions (e.g., systems, applications, data and analytics, reporting, etc.) to deliver innovative solutions that balance external leading market practices with internal business needs. Provide direction across our HRIS initiatives and help to set the HR technology strategy for our Company.

Location: Remote

Work Arrangements: Must be available during Eastern Standard time zone. Willing to travel to Orrville, OH offices 15-30% of the year.

In this role you will:

Collaborate and work closely with Company, HR and IS leadership to translate strategic and tactical business plans into strategic HR and technology initiatives

Evaluate and advise on the impact of long range planning of new systems, technologies, and regulatory action – as those items impact HR functional strategies, capabilities, and programs

In partnership with HR Leadership and the respective HR COEs, lead the design and development of HR functional strategies, programs, plans, policies, tools, templates and practices

Recommend plans for continued process improvements; seek innovative ways to improve the process of delivering solutions to employees and gaining management support for leveraging Workday – our HRIS system

Proactively stay abreast of industry trends and new technologies; make appropriate recommendations to enhance, develop and innovate to better serve the evolving needs of the business and our stakeholders

Responsible for successful HRIS integration of newly acquired businesses

Work with Company and HR leadership to design, develop, and distribute reports – automating wherever possible.  As necessary, assist the team to determine benchmarks, targets, thresholds, and other parameters. Assure the accuracy and consistency of all reporting activity. Provide perspectives and insight in addition to raw data. 

Lead and direct a high-performing, agile team of 8-10 HRIS professionals including performance evaluations, increases, bonuses, discipline, and promotions.

Ensure the proper alignment of HRIS resources to support various demands of the business

Provide guidance to the HRIS team with day-to-day execution of their responsibilities regarding system functionality and capabilities and direct them regarding proper procedures, policies, and requirements

Manage team to ensure deadlines are met according to established service levels; provide excellent service to ensure activities provide the intended experience for end users

Serve as a subject matter expert and provide technical advice and knowledge to others; at times lead project(s) and the configuration of Workday; act as the final escalation point for respective HRIS and project issues

Responsible for developing people (Smucker people development, including administration of career path, individual work / development plans and performance management) 

Manage the entire portfolio of HRIS projects; champion an innovative and agile mindset across HR – constructively challenge the status quo 

Oversee – and at time lead – Proof of Concept efforts for new or significant changes to proposed functionalities

Ensure buy-in by key stakeholders of recommended solutions 

Oversee HRIS sign-off of mass uploads according to the established quality assurance process

Lead all system maintenance, including the review, testing, and implementation of HRIS system upgrades; collaborate with functional and technical staff to coordinate the application of an upgrade or fix; maintain HRIS system tables and document process and results

Lead compliance requirements for assigned HR transactional processes

Lead the work required for any internal, external, and government audits, as required. Gather and provide information, assist with access to and explanation of reporting processes, procedures, and products, and support other audit tasks as requested. Assure accuracy and completeness of reporting activity related to major projects such as mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, or restructuring. Authorize or approve transactions as necessary.

Ensure third party vendors adhere to established service level agreements and provide feedback to the appropriate corporate team regarding performance

Lead the internal HR Shared Services team – or appropriate COEs and vendors – to identify and correct problems and implement fixes

Manage support for researching and resolving HRIS problems, unexpected results or process flaws; recommends solutions or alternate methods to meet requirements

Lead all project, system, and organizational contingencies related to HRIS and recommend, implement, manage, or support changes under the guidance of senior management.  Assure that physical, financial, and people resources are managed effectively.

Ensure that customers, partners, and stakeholders (e.g., COEs and other stakeholders such as Operations HR Leaders, HR Business Partners and IS) are kept up-to-date with appropriate, timely, and relevant reports, analytics and system updates

Handle escalated and/or sensitive requests and issues from the team. Escalate particularly specialized, difficult, or sensitive matters to the appropriate COEs and ensure that cases are updated and maintained accordingly.

What we are looking for:

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree

15+ years of progressive HR leadership experience

10+ years of HRIS or IS experience in roles of increasing responsibility 

5+ years of experience as lead/owner of significant system or system functionality, Workday preferred

Advanced understanding of general HR processes, procedures, controls, regulations, and compliance requirements

Strong negotiation and influencing skills with a consultative approach

Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills leading to effective problem resolution

Demonstrated expertise providing the vision, leadership, planning, design, and management of HR programs

Strong planning and project management skills and ability to apply these skills in effective working partnerships across organizational lines

Conveys a positive and professional demeanor to employees at all times and possesses a high level of confidentiality and integrity

Ability to work seamlessly and build relationships in an evolving and fast-growing organization.

Strong coaching, conflict resolution, relationship and team building skills; demonstrated ability to objectively coach employees and management through complex situations

Must possess well-developed interpersonal communications, negotiation, writing, speaking, and strong listening skills

Ability to exercise sound judgment with minimal direction/guidance but also knows when to escalate issues

Exceptional customer service disposition, enabling ability to effectively coach and provide value-add consultative services

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong results/goal orientation

Experience with Microsoft tools and applications

Ability to understand and adapt to new or changing situations, requirements, or priorities
