I. Job Purpose and Core Tasks
The Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Team at Karl Storz US influences leaders to maximize financial impact and achieve strategic objectives. As the Head of FP&A Commercial, you will be a trusted thought partner to the Commercial leadership team, providing financial transparency of the trajectory of the business lines, and influencing decisions and actions to achieve targets. The person is a creative and passionate problem-solver who thinks big, acts quickly to capitalize on opportunities and mitigate risks. A strategic, and results-driven finance leader, you will co-pilot the surgical and operating room integration (OR1) businesses and lead a team of 3 analysts to drive impactful finance business partnering to their respective commercial business lines.
The FP&A team is on a transformation journey, and the Head of FP&A is a critical role in implementing an effective finance business partnering model in US. The Head of FP&A Commercial will lead the successful roll out of the new model, and upskill the FP&A organization, therefore experience in improving processes, managing change and developing people is highly valuable. We are seeking a courageous finance leader that can meaningfully connect with sales and marketing leaders to drive financial discipline, productively challenge to drive effective decisions and hold leaders accountable to targets. The candidate must have the ability to work with diverse stakeholder groups to make data insightful to commercial stakeholders and solve business problems.
Core tasks include:
Develop 5-year sales plans for business lines
Establish top-line performance metrics and targets and drive accountability for results
Develop annual budgets for operating (OPEX) and capital expenses
Develop quarterly P&L forecasts and monitor forecast accuracy
Manage the surgical and OR1 rolling 12-month management P&L including orders and sales, gross profit, OPEX (including personnel costs)
Prepare financial analysis and facilitate performance review with Commercial leaders (e.g. budget variance analysis), highlighting trends, drivers, data-backed insights and drive action
Effectively communicate the ‘story’ of the financial data to commercial partners, and central FP&A to feed into upstream performance management (including resolving specific queries).
Lead and develop a high performing team of 3 analysts. Develop skills through on the job coaching and structured training and development.
Resolve escalations from team and manage priorities and guide team to provide excellent finance partnering.
Implement best practice finance partnering, including implementing new tools, improving processes and training team members. Drive continuous improvement in FP&A processes.
Provide analytical guidance (including scenario analysis) to identify, solve problems and enable data-backed decisions.
Develop strategic insights and quantitative analysis for initiatives and projects to ensure alignment with financial objectives and compliance with policies.
Guide business partners through Karl Storz governance processes by creating business cases e.g. for incremental headcount, capital investments.
II. Minimum Knowledge, Education and Skill Requirements
Required
Minimum years of relevant work experience:
8+ years of experience in financial reporting and analysis, finance business partnering.
2+ years transforming finance operating model or planning processes either within an organization or as a consultant/advisor.
2+ years of management and leadership experience.
Minimum education, certifications and/or credentials:
A minimum education level of a(n) BS in Finance, Accounting, Business or equivalent.
Minimum hard skill requirements (including computer and application proficiency):
Data analytics and automated dashboard creation for commercial leadership audience, experience with Tableau preferred
Strong analytical skills, proven ability to transform data into actionable insight
Strong business acumen with an understanding of the marketing, accounting, decision support models, operations, leadership, and financial levers that drive sales, gross margin and operating profit
Ability to create new predictive financial models
Process transformation and a continuous improvement mindset
High attention to detail, with ability to see the big picture and analyze the ‘so what’ in the context of strategic goals
Minimum soft skill requirements:
Collaborative and capable of influencing commercial leaders to course correct, based on sound analysis and business judgement
Proven ability to build trusted, cross-functional relationships
Executive presence, excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to influence leadership, peers and direct reports.
