Job Description

We currently have a rare and exciting opportunity for a professional and dedicated Senior Legal Counsel to join our team at Minor Hotels. Based in our Brisbane CBD Corporate Office and reporting directly to the General Counsel, this position provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced Legal Counsel to join this high performing in-house legal team in an international company.

This role would be perfect for someone with some property or hotel experience looking to make a career move to an in-house role with a large and rapidly growing hotel company.

The current structure of the Legal Team includes 3 lawyers and 3 non-lawyers. We are looking for a candidate with a desire to grow their career as an in-house lawyer with a passion for growth and success.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Providing general legal advice, recommendations, and support to a number of key internal departments, including Owners department, Property (65+ properties), Leadership Team, Executive Committee, General Counsel & Commercial Departments.Undertake legal work, including giving legal advice and preparing and reviewing contracts and other legal documents.Keep the General Counsel informed at all times about any significant legal or compliance issues arising from legal workReview, negotiate and draft corporate, sponsorship or software related contracts as well as a large range of corporate and commercial and hotel agreementsDraft, review and negotiate Hotel Management Agreements and property leasesAssist in supporting the legal team in managing purchase or sale agreements (for new and existing hotels)Assist with preparing, renewing and assigning MLR Agreements, Leases, HMAs and Franchise agreements as requiredProvide advice and recommendations on the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and privacy legislation.

Qualifications

 To be successful in this role you will require the following: 

Tertiary qualification in Law or Law CommerceAdmitted to practice as a solicitor in Queensland (as a minimum)Approximately 8 years post admission experienceProperty Law or Hotel Law experience preferred (but not mandatory)Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise with executives, managers, staff, external lawyers and regulatory bodies in a professional and positive mannerExemplary phone and computer skills, including a strong proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)Effective planning and organizational skills to manage pressure situations, multiple tasks and ability to work with a sense of urgency and within required timeframesAn eagerness to grow your career in-house
