Who we are…and what we offer

We have established four Legal Powerhouses in Bangalore, Mexico City, São Paulo and Barcelona, which form an integral part of the Legal Function and provide defined, structured services to our other lawyers and to the wider business.

Where this position fits-into the team:

Part of the Unilever Legal Powerhouse – a team we’re currently building, which will consist of around 55 colleagues in Bangalore and 40 across Mexico, Spain & Brazil.

Integral part of the Unilever’s Legal Function - a global operation consisting of approximately 400 lawyers and specialists

Based alongside the UniOps in Bangalore – a wider team of 1,600 that powers Unilever’s compass strategy through world class business operations enabled by technology and innovation.

Role purpose

Supporting one of our 5 Global Business Groups (Nutrition, Ice Cream, Homecare, Personal Care and Beauty & Wellbeing) Legal Teams

Leading legal research and analysis

Support to the teams in relation to monitoring of emerging regulations

Drafting legal documents

Contracting:

To negotiate terms and conditions with third parties with whom Unilever business wish to contract, by both influencing them to accept our own standard templates or, alternatively, negotiating the use of their templates, with changes that suit Unilever’s interests.

To ensure there are adequate schedules included in the overall supplier contracts so that the contract risk profile of 3rd party suppliers providing or supporting Unilever information and systems is adequately managed and addressed.

To interact with Unilever legal team who own the contracts’ expertise in order to ensure that up to date version of clauses, templates and schedules are used.

Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records and files

Support departmental records / data management and retention efforts using internal technology resources

Monitoring of lawsuits and administrative procedures

Support to the teams in relation to control of cases, deadlines and documentation

Supporting the management and administration of contracts

Simplification and innovation; supporting innovation and use of technology to simplify and improve the provision of legal services

Engaging with and supporting other lawyers across the globe

Stakeholder Management

Support the development and management of stakeholder relationships within Unilever and with key third parties, including within HomeCare, Legal, Customer Operations, Procurement, Finance, Marketing, Business Operations Sustainability, HR, local Data Protection Officers and other businesses.

Key Skills

Essential

Professional qualification in Law

Minimum of 6 years of law firm or FMCG/ supplier industry experience working within a large complex business environment requiring analysis of contracts and supporting data and making balanced risk recommendations

Experience of business partnering

Willingness and drive for process excellence

The ability to work independently and cross functionally under pressure

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Excellent stakeholder management

Attention to detail, proven ability to draft accurately and effectively in a legal register of language

To be a pro-active self-starter who is able to work autonomously

Flexibility and readiness to work on a broad range of matters

Excellent project management skills and ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment

Strong interpersonal skills and highly team-oriented

Ability to work with colleagues across multiple time zones, cultures and countries

Capable with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint – including the creation of graphical presentations

 Preferable

Prior and substantial experience of working for a large multinational and/or in a B2C business and/or FMCG business.
