The Faculty of Health Sciences Teaching and Learning Office invites applications for an academic position in the Faculty Learning and Teaching Innovation Hub, to drive faculty and student development programmes to incorporate technologies and blended learning into the curricula, with a particular focus on the use of artificial intelligence (AI). The incumbent will work closely with the Centre for Health Sciences Education (CHSE) and the Office of Student Success (OSS) as part of an innovative team that works across the faculty. Joining this team places the incumbent at the cutting edge of health sciences education. This is a permanent full-time senior lecturer/lecturer position.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:
1. Teaching and Learning:
Design, develop and conduct staff training related to the integration of blended learning and the use of appropriate educational technologies, with a focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the curriculum.
Initiate, implement and monitor course development and curriculum changes that integrate blended learning approaches and the use of educational technologies, including AI, in the curricula across the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Teach students to use technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), in responsible and ethical ways for learning.
Monitor the trends and advancements in the use of educational technologies, including AI, for teaching and learning in health sciences education to inform the strategic direction of the Faculty in this domain.
Co-supervise Master of Health Sciences Education student research related to blended learning approaches and the use of educational technologies the curriculum.
2. Research, Innovation and Scholarship:
Conduct research on blended learning approaches and the use of educational technologies, including AI, into Health Sciences Curricula.
Collaborate on the curriculum renewal research initiatives in the Faculty.
Identify sources of funding and contribute to the process of securing funds by writing research proposals.
Manage the Implementation of Grant Funded Initiatives within the Faculty Learning and Teaching Innovation Hub.
3. Academic Citizenship:
Actively participate in Faculty Committees.
Draft and collaborate on the development of policies and procedure documents related to blended learning approaches and the use of educational technologies, including AI, in Health Sciences Education.
Take on leadership roles within the Faculty Learning and Teaching Innovation Hub.
1. Administration:
Administrative responsibilities as allocated and required for high quality productivity in the position.
Project planning, management monitoring and evaluation within the team.
Work with the Faculty Communications Office in marketing and promoting the Faculty Learning and Teaching Innovation Hub.
Minimum Requirements:
Demonstratable knowledge and experience of integrating blended learning approaches and the use of educational technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), for learning and teaching in higher education is essential to this position.
Minimum of 5 years experience as an educator in higher education, with preference given to those with experience within health sciences.
For appointment at a lecturer level: A masters degree (MA, MSc or Med) in a health sciences, social sciences or education field.
o For applicants with a health sciences / social science masters an education related higher degree (PGCE, PGDip HSE, MHSE or similar) is required.
o A masters with a topic related to the use blended learning approaches, the use of educational technologies (such as AI) in higher education will have preference.
For appointment at a senior lecturer level: a PhD in a health sciences, social sciences or education related field.
o For applicants with a health sciences / social science related PhD, an education related higher degree (PGCE, PGDip HSE, MHSE or similar) is required.
o A PhD with a topic related to use blended learning approaches, the use of educational technologies (such as AI) in higher education will have preference.
Desirable skills and attributes:
Experience with leading faculty development initiatives and student skills development training within health sciences or higher education.
Knowledge and skilled use of a variety of applicable software for productivity and learning (such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Claude, Chatbots, Office365, OpenOffice, web-applications), virtual learning environments (such as Canvas and Moodle) and basic media production (such as Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud).
Professional application of social networking media and practices (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok)
Comfortable to present to large groups, various stakeholders and in front of a video camera
An innovative thinker who is not afraid to share ideas.
Research experience.
Strong communication and training skills.
Project management and work-flow management with good team-work skills.
General administration skills.
