The Senior Lead Counsel 1 - Foreign Exchange will provide senior legal advice to Citi’s Foreign Exchange business in the Americas, with a particular focus on legal issues associated with electronic platforms used for trading, settling, clearing, confirming, or collateralizing foreign exchange and related transactions and services (“FX Platforms”). The successful candidate in this position will bring leadership and cohesiveness to Citi FX Legal’s global management of legal and regulatory risks on FX Platforms.
The FX Platforms Senior Attorney will be responsible for:
+ Designing and leading a legal strategy and partnership with the business for on-going inventorying, monitoring, managing, and mitigating of legal and regulatory risks presented by existing and new FX Platforms;
+ Working in close partnership with the business product team on legal and regulatory risk assessment of proposed new FX Platform relationships;
+ Building partnerships and on-going engagement with cross-functional teams, including, Risk, Compliance, Operations, IT Legal, Network Management, Privacy and Data Legal leads to ensure an on-going and resilient end-to-end risk and control framework for managing legal and regulatory risks presented by existing and new FX Platforms;
+ Seeking guidance and input from colleagues and functions throughout the organization to ensure alignment to the risk and control standards set by Citi’s Legal management and Citi’s executive management team;
+ Maintaining an on-going collaboration and engagement with vendors and providers of the most critical and important FX Platforms, including, staying on top of legal and regulatory risk assessments of new products, features, Platform rules or rule changes;
+ Maintaining an on-going collaboration and engagement with relevant industry groups to stay current on FX Platforms industry best practices, emerging risks, proposed rules, regulations, regulatory guidance, regulatory developments (such as enforcement actions); and
+ Serving as subject matter expert and key resource.
Successful candidates should have:
+ Knowledge of CFTC swap dealer regulations, a strong plus.
+ Knowledge of standards and principles recommended for banking organizations by prudential regulators or global standard setting bodies on managing risks relating to third party service providers such as FX Platform vendors, a strong plus.
+ Demonstrated strength and skill in establishing effective working relationships across the business and support functions is required.
+ 7+ years of relevant industry experience, preferably in financial services
+ Banking or financial industry experience, including laws related to banking regulations
+ Proven ability to apply sound judgement while managing assignments in a demanding, fast-paced environment
+ Bar license in good standing to practice law

$211,280.00 - $316,920.00
