Senior Laboratory Assistant *Nights*

The Senior Laboratory Assistant is responsible for clinical laboratory duties to include, but not limited to:

• Phlebotomy: Performs venipuncture and capillary procedures on pediatric and adult inpatient and outpatients based on orders in the laboratory information system (LIS) or outpatient requisitions. Including legal collections.

• Data Entry: Orders testing in LIS based on physician orders. Cancels and redraws orders per policy.  Documents communication with care team in LIS as required by policy.

• Handles and processes specimens for testing at PRMCE and reference laboratories. Specimens include blood, urine, cultures, and other body fluids.

• Packages and ships laboratory specimens.

• Performs testing as required. Maintains competency as required.

• Maintains inventory of supplies needed to perform job.

• Performs documentation as needed for maintenance, QC, unusual occurrences, and shift communication.

• Couriers specimens between campuses as required.

• Communicates effectively and professionally to all caregivers and patients.

All job responsibilities are conducted in accordance with regulatory accreditation agency requirements.

Required Qualifications:

Coursework/Training Completion of  a Phlebotomy course  (including completion of a 4 week internship in Phlebotomy in a clinical laboratory setting). Or Coursework/Training Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Course. Or equivalent educ/experience. a combination of education and directly related work experience. or six months of related laboratory work experience and eligible for DOH Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy license. Coursework/Training If job assignment requires driving to another facility, complete Defensive Driving course within 6 months of hire and every three years thereafter. H.S. Diploma or GED. upon hire: Washington Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certification or upon hire: Washington Medical Assistant Certification.
