The University of Dayton, a top-tier Catholic research university, is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Lab Manager to join our School of Engineering. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the daily operations of our teaching and research laboratories, ensuring a seamless and conducive learning environment for our students, faculty and staff. Your responsibilities will encompass managing laboratory resources, maintaining equipment, and implementing safety protocols to uphold the highest standards of excellence.
This position will be responsible for working collaboratively with other members of the School of Engineering Lab Manager Team to oversee the teaching and research activities and operational oversight of the School of Engineering labs. This position will work with a core team of lab managers, as well as School of Engineering administration, faculty, staff, and students, to plan, manage, and meet overall objectives and interests of the labs. A primary aspect of this position is coordinating the inventory, storage, and maintenance of supplies, lab ware, and instruments essential to the operation of the labs. This position will oversee a specific area of the laboratory facilities (e.g. Chemical and Materials Engineering teaching and research labs) for about 50% of their time, while the remaining time will be spent addressing and contributing to solutions to SOE-wide needs and submitted work orders. The position will assist in the development and implementation and policies, procedures, and standards for lab operations to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality control of the laboratories and compliance with federal, state, and university regulations and standards.
Minimum Qualifications:o An associate’s degree or a trade school/vocation/technician degree
o 2 or more years practical experience in machining
o Effective written and verbal communication skills
o Effective organizational skills
While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:
o Plumbing experience
o Electric/electrician experience
o Experience with mechanical and/or electric repairs of various equipment and prototype systems
o Documented formal training and/or certifications in machining, plumbing, and/or electric
o Experience working in a diverse academic environment and engineering laboratories
o Ability to work independently on design, assembly, and evaluation of mechanical and electrical systems
