WHO WE ARE?

Diversified Credit is one of South Africa’s leading credit investment managers, with over 30 years of proven track record. Within Old Mutual Alternative Investments, we currently manage over ZAR 21 B in credit assets across a portfolio of listed and unlisted fixed income instruments.

The Diversified Credit team specialises in originating high-quality, Investment-Grade credit assets, primarily in South Africa, but also across the continent and broader international market.

Our services include deal origination, execution, and evaluation of credit transactions, as well as credit support, asset management, and counterparty engagements over the lifespan of our transactions. Our aim is to build a well-diversified portfolio of listed and unlisted credit assets while ensuring superior risk-adjusted investment returns for our investors.

Role Overview:

This role is responsible for all aspects of credit risk management for a diversified portfolio of credit investments comprising, inter alia, Property/REITS, Corporates, State Owned Entities, Securitizations, Municipalities and Leverage Buy-Outs. Responsibilities of the role would mainly be focused on credit analysis, modelling, review of legal documentation, and ongoing monitoring across both unlisted and listed credit investments however would also be required to support the Head of Credit.

Key Result Areas:

Counterparty and sector evaluation, legal analysis and instrument structuring and pricing.Preparation and presentation of credit/investment proposals to the relevant Credit/ Investment Committee(s).Ongoing and proactive monitoring of sector and counterparty developments and verbal and written communication of views and recommendations to key stakeholders to facilitate appropriate action.Review and negotiation of legal documents for approved investments for both unlisted and listed transactions.Relative quantitative and qualitative risk rating of counterparties and instruments in the various investment portfolios managed including the application of risk scoring methodologies.Maintain internal relationships with portfolio managers, debt originators, legal advisors and credit or investment committee members. Stakeholder interaction and relationship building, including interaction with external credit market participants, engaging with counterparties and clients.Develop an understanding of the credit market and potential investment opportunities and communication of views to key stakeholders.Credit Risk Management Framework: provide input aimed at enhancing existing processes and capabilities

Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:

CA (SA), CFA or equivalent professional qualification.Minimum 5 years post articles relevant experience in Credit Risk or debt origination.Prior corporate or structured credit transaction experience at an SA bank or asset manager.Previous supervisory/managerial experience advantageous.Strong understanding of structured credit investment and legal agreements.Strong knowledge of credit and fixed income markets.Good excel skills (including modelling skills).

Participates in developing investment recommendations for portfolio managers relating to existing and potential investments. Develops and amends quantitative models to analyse and forecast market developments, estimating risks, identifying factors influencing investment decisions and quantifying potential risks and rewards.

Risk Scenario Modeling

Analyze, assess, and quantify the risks associated with products, individual applications, business activities, and the market to determine whether any risk is within the agreed risk appetite. Undertake tactical risk modeling.

Data Collection and Analysis

Use data from a wide range of sources to analyze key themes and identify possible impacts on the business.

Financial Policies, Guidelines, and Protocols

Create a plan to deliver and review financial policies, guidelines, and protocols to ensure the company complies with regulations and good financial practice.

Investment Management

Analyze and forecast investment or market trends by designing and developing nonroutine investment models. May also manage specific assigned portfolios while helping to develop investment policy.

Recommendations

Recommend changes to policies, processes, standards, and practices that would improve operational support.

Internal Communications

Develop and/or deliver a plan for significant aspects of internal communications with guidance from senior colleagues.

Information and Business Advice

Provide specialist advice on the interpretation and application of policies and procedures, resolving complex or contentious queries and issues and enabling others to take appropriate actions.

Document Preparation

Write and edit material for various target populations, tailoring the tone and content to match the needs and expectations of each audience.

Internal Client Relationship Management

Manage relationships with internal clients and act as a business partner to them, building high levels of professional credibility and mutual trust, and managing the deployment of appropriate internal and/or external resources to support in delivering business strategy and plans.

Personal Capability Building

Act as subject matter expert in an area of technology, policy, regulation, or operational management for the team. Maintain external accreditations and in-depth understanding of current and emerging external regulation and industry best practices through continuing professional development, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
