BASIC FUNCTION:
Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), lead critical IT projects, including the migration from PeopleSoft, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget, all while minimizing disruption to university operations. Collaborate closely with the CIO, university leadership, stakeholders, Organizational Change Management, IT Training, IT Communications, the Administrative Application Group, the IT & Cloud Infrastructure Group, and other key teams. Display a commitment to driving value. Set clear goals and define success metrics, such as Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Return on Investment (ROI), to measure the effectiveness and impact of IT projects. Ensure that Information Technology Services initiatives align with the university’s strategic objectives and deliver tangible benefits.
Duties and Responsibilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead and manage IT projects from initiation through completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
Develop and implement a URI Project Management Methodology with guidelines as to usage. Apply Agile principles and coach others in practices like sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
Oversee large ERP projects, specifically the migration from PeopleSoft to Workday for HCM, Financials, and Student Information Systems, ensuring seamless transitions with minimal disruption.
Partner with faculty, administrative staff, and external vendors to gather requirements and align projects with university goals.
Identify, analyze, and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle.
Maintain comprehensive project documentation and provide regular updates to senior management and stakeholders.
Manage financial, architectural, and technical aspects of projects to ensure predictable delivery within budget and schedule constraints.
Drive all aspects of project execution, managing both operational and tactical elements to deliver final objectives.
Utilize excellence in collaboration, team building, and fostering inclusive environments to solicit diverse viewpoints to ensure comprehensive and well-rounded project outcomes.
Utilize excellent lateral management skills to lead ad hoc project staff, third-party contractors, vendors, and potentially student staff.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Effectively translate strategic objectives into actionable tactical plans.
Effectively motivate and guide cross-functional teams.
Perform other duties as assigned.
LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:
Personal computers, printers, Agile methodologies (including Scrum), Wagile, ERP (i.e., PeopleSoft, Workday); ITSM, ITIL, SDLC.
Required Qualifications REQUIRED:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field.
2. Minimum of six years of professional IT experience.
3. Minimum of four years of experience in IT project management.
4. Demonstrated experience with Agile methodologies (including Scrum).
5. Demonstrated knowledge of hybrid project management approaches (e.g., “Wagile”) for large-scale projects.
6. Demonstrated experience managing large-scale projects involving ERP implementations (i.e., PeopleSoft and/or Workday).
7. Demonstrated understanding of ITSM, ITIL, SDLC, and ERP systems.
8. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
9. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.
10. Demonstrated ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
11. Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem solving skills.
12. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
13. Demonstrated experience with IT and organizational change management methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications PREFERRED:
1. Demonstrated experience in higher education.
2. Certification as a PMP, Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), or similar project management certifications (e.g., PMI or VITA certification).
3. Demonstrated experience with fit-gap analyses and estimating FTE requirements for large ERP projects.
