Job Purpose:
The Head of School – Law is accountable for the academic leadership and building academic capacity of a school of discipline (and associated basket of programmes) for the brand across its campuses as part of the faculty structure of Rosebank College. Responsible for forging and strengthening links with external partners, industry and the relevant profession in order to grow the brand's academic credibility, gravitas and student growth.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Academic Management
Develop, implement and align the strategic plan for the faculty as aligned to the Intuitional strategyProvide academic leadership for the undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing professional development (CPD) of the faculty if applicableReview and implement changes to the existing programmes curriculum in collaboration with the IIE Central Academic Team (CAT)Contribute to/or assist in the development of new programmes in collaboration with The Central Academic Team Heads of Programme for accreditation and curriculum material development in the cognate areaManage and lead the interface with Independent Institute of Education (IIE) within the faculty disciplineCollaborate with relevant stakeholders (i.e. blended learning) in the cognate area of the faculty based on current industry and research trendsCollaborate with relevant stakeholders to design an appropriate teaching model for the school to provide optimal delivery of curriculum, teaching, learning and assessmentProvide leadership to plan resource allocation for all aspects of running a successful programme e.g. Law Careers Fair, training contracts, trainingCollaborate with relevant stakeholders in the cognate area e.g. Smart boards, Learning Management Systems (LMS) training and other relevant technology-based applicationsCoordination of discipline specialists across campuses e.g. Module Discipline Leader (MDL support)Provide specialist knowledge and support in the development of fact sheet for the facultyActively teach or supervise to serve as an exemplar in best teaching practice including scholarly activities such as setting and marking of assessments as required.Academic Leadership
Review, develop and implement the curriculum and syllabus for the selected programmes or modulesAct as the interface between the IIE Head of Faculty and National and Campus Academic teams and, where applicable the Academic Operations teamsIdentify module developers in collaboration with the IIE CAT Operations Team and as required, brief the developerAssist in the identification of external moderators in collaboration with the IIE CAT Operations TeamCollaborate with the Research Manager to ensure that the research output of the faculty contributes to the attainment of university statusParticipate in key IIE governance structures and committees.Professional Relationship Management
Act as the Brand Ambassador to external stakeholders in the profession and partnership-buildingDevelop and maintain relationships with industry in the profession which includes industry placements of students, sponsorships and professional expertiseLead academic positioning of Rosebank College professional training and development for the world of workParticipate in professional and scholarly activities e.g. Society of Law Teachers, Conference Papers and Higher Degree StudiesServe as the key liaison with professional and academic partners in the cognate area where requiredRepresent Rosebank College on external partner faculty boards, committees and professional bodiesFacilitate compliance with partners and provider's policies, regulations and proceduresCampus Support
Work with the campus Programme Manager and support the development of that role at each campusImplement a formal communication structure within the faculty, at a campus level through the Programme ManagerSupport the campuses in the recruitment, selection, approval and development of the teaching team in the cognate areaCommunicate with the campuses on new developments, recommendations and trends and facilitate troubleshootingCollaborate with the various functions within the student experience teams to ensure the faculty is represented appropriately in campus initiativesProvide support relating to issues and escalations that may impact the faculty.Reporting and Analytics
Compile learning analytics reports on students’ academic results, throughput rates, progression rates, graduation and completion rates across campuses for the facultyProvide support and guidance on appropriate interventions as per the results of analytics.People Management
Driving a high-performance culture by taking accountability for an effective and well-articulated performance management processConduct performance reviews in accordance with policies and procedures and take corrective actions where necessaryProviding strategic guidance in the implementation of human resources policies, procedures and practicesLead the department by managing appointments, promotions, and industrial relations issues in conjunction with the Human Resources Support Service UnitBuilds a robust, effective leadership pipeline, succession, and capacity.Minimum Requirements:
Qualifications
Qualification in the respective area of Law - LLD (NQF Level 9)
Experience
Minimum
3 years of Lecturing or teaching experience.3 - 5 Years of Practicing Attorney experience.Advantageous
3 years of educational management experience.
