We're looking for an experienced Senior Hardware Engineer passionate about data center technology. Reporting to the Manager of Infrastructure Engineering Design, you will play a key role in designing the next generation of server platforms that support DigitalOcean's growth. Collaborating with internal teams and external vendors, you'll bring innovative hardware solutions to life. 

Your technical expertise will be essential in resolving hardware issues, streamlining processes, and guiding your fellow engineers. What You'll Be Doing: Architecting the Future: Collaborate with internal stakeholders to translate product roadmaps into next-generation server hardware requirements that align with DigitalOcean's mission. Technical Expertise & Escalation: Provide expert-level troubleshooting and resolution for system hardware issues impacting both customers and internal operations. Automation & Validation: Enhance firmware and hardware configuration automation and validation processes, ensuring optimal performance and reliability of both platforms and components (NIC, Storage, BMC). Directly influence the future of server technology, shaping innovative solutions that drive business growth and competitive advantage. Unlock new levels of innovation and agility in server design, leveraging ODM partnerships to adapt quickly to market demands. Guide server platforms from inception to production, ensuring high quality, timely delivery, and successful market adoption. What We’ll Expect From You: Technical Degree (BS Computer Science/Engineering) or equivalent practical experience  Strong understanding of x86 server hardware architecture and subsystems. Ideally, you’ve worked with non-x86 hardware too! Demonstrated professional proficiency in configuration management best-practices (we use Ansible and Chef) Experience automating server components at large-scale using industry-standard tooling (Redfish, IPMI, etc) including a deep understanding of benchmarking, automating test frameworks, and process automation in general Practical knowledge of PXE boot, UEFI, Linux/OS boot, AMI/OEM BIOS distributions, OpenBMC/AMI/OEM BMC implementations, RAID and other storage resiliency technologies, and the full Network stack- from NIC firmware to TCP/IP Adept at Linux (or Unix) operating systems. You’ll be spending a lot of time working in one! Comfortable with version control systems (we use Git) and proficient in at least one programming language (such as Python or Go)  Ability to participate in 24/7 on-call rotation with other members of the team Excellent communication skills, both within the team and with the broader company   Have an insatiable passion for hardware, both new and old Why You’ll Like Working for DigitalOcean: We are proud to work here. The salary range for this position is between $155,000 - $180,000  based on market data, relevant years of experience, and skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance.
