Senior Field Engineering Specialist
Job Title: Sr. Field Engineering Specialist

Job Description

Perform moderately complex engineering detail and field work, ensuring work orders are complete and all requirements are met. Select cost-effective and safe project designs. Serve as a primary customer contact for assigned communities regarding new or changes to existing electric and/or gas systems. Train less-experienced staff as needed.

ResponsibilitiesHandle moderately complex customer inquiries involving company procedures and engineering detail using standard operating procedures.Work with the crew to communicate work orders and train crew members. Plan, schedule, assign, and review the work of crews.Plan work orders including as-builts, preparing estimates and work orders, preparing material lists, ensuring accuracy of sag calculations, switching/valve sequence planning, training, and writing accurate policies and procedures.Perform a variety of field work, including locating and sizing of services, load determination, distribution easements, staking, survey work of increasing difficulty, field checks, securing licenses, and completion of joint use applications while adhering to regulatory requirements.Track and report work-related functions necessary to support business processes including creating work requests, CIS transactions, and establishing projects in work management, GIS/Mapping System, and various other systems.Provide technical support for work requests, resolve technical issues, and ensure crews understand work scope, detail, and structure.Work with hourly and salaried supervisors in scheduling work for others.Assist in community and customer relations as required. Represent the company and participate in community activities.Interact with operations managers to identify resource requirements.Responsible for emergency response back-up in assigned process, including assessing risks and costs, determining labor resources, assisting in managing callout procedures, and monitoring performance measures for employees involved with emergency response.Keep current in knowledge and understanding of company procedures, rates, rules, practices, standards, and application of construction materials.Perform work under the general supervision of a Team Lead.Assist personnel in performing pre-work walkdowns to locate and identify any pre-existing deficiencies before repower activities commence.Work with personnel which may necessitate assisting with LOTO activities, confined space entry, or troubleshooting activities.Observe any and all job scopes being performed by the contractor as part of the repower activities to ensure work instructions are being accurately followed and quality work is being performed.Observe and record work activity performed by site personnel on a daily basis as well as weather and any causes for work delays.Observe critical crane lifts to ensure all necessary care is taken to ensure safe work and avoid damage to major components.Perform spot checks on work while hub is on the ground to ensure proper installs are being completed and all components are being installed properly.Observe housekeeping conditions of crane work sites to ensure all hydraulic components are handled, stored, and installed using care to prevent contaminants from entering the system.Assist in performing post-install walkdowns to ensure that all repower work has been completed properly and to adequate quality standards.Assist in identifying any punch list items remaining after work completion.Essential SkillsUtility constructionEngineeringCivilAutoCADDraftingDistribution engineeringAdditional Skills & QualificationsAssociate's Degree5 years of related experienceValid driver’s licenseWillingness to travel, including occasional overnight staysSolid working knowledge of applicable math and physics conceptsKnowledgeable of construction practicesKnowledgeable of design and work packaging standards, federal/state regulationsKnowledgeable of gas and electric codes, OSHA rules, DOT requirementsKnowledgeable of utility construction equipment, project management, and material procurement processesMechanical and survey and drafting skillsAbility to draw accurate and legible engineering-related mapsAdvanced surveying and right-of-way knowledgeEffective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skillsAbility to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management)Experience with STORMS and ArcFM software preferredMust be switch qualified in electrical operations switching, gas operations, and gas emergency proceduresWork Environment

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr.
