Job Summary

The Sr Engineer, Obsolescence is responsible for the lifecycle planning of products and components, ensuring that obsolescence is coordinated proactively to minimize impact on operations and maintenance. This position will work closely with technical and supply chain teams as well as with vendors & Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to develop strategies for mitigating risks associated with obsolete parts and technology as well as provide budgetary guidance.

The role requires an individual to coordinate and support rig equipment obsolescence, through the development of a strategic management plan, with the input of Engineering SME’s to ensure alignment on the technical solution and by reviewing both internal and external Equipment Technical bulletins against rig equipment.

The Obsolescence Engineer is also responsible for providing technical solutions to the rig teams for the management of complex equipment obsolescence by harvesting equipment from the UIR stacked assets and by developing a comprehensive obsolete parts tracking system, which includes the purchase of ‘last buy” OEM spares and the reconditioning of existing spare parts within the fleet.

The role requires effective communication (verbal and written) with the OEM’s, rig teams, Major Spares Program, Fleet Integrity Planning, and internal Senior Management, to ensure the correct level of support is provided to the offshore teams for the management of equipment obsolescence topics and with a key focus on financial awareness.

Job Description

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

Develop, implement and coordinate the obsolescence management plan and process. There are many topics of obsolescence within the fleet all of which require a plan of action to ensure continued support to the affected rigs.Coordination with stakeholders (Engineering, TFS, SMEs, Supply Chain, MSP, FIP, Vendors, OEMs. etc.) to determine hardware and software obsolescence management needs and help define solutions.Tracking parts related to obsolescence programs to ensure sufficient quantities to support ongoing programs and affected rigs, determine possible dates for depletion of parts to allow new plans to be created. Review inventory to optimize stock levels, reducing the risk of obsolescence and excess.Interfacing with the OEM’s on technical and commercial levels to ensure full understanding of the obsolescence items and the possible implications associated with it, to assist in strategy development.Harvesting plan development and follow up. Many of the programs involve harvesting parts from retiring assets or 3rd party vendors which requires development and follow-up. Maintain obsolescence tracker using TOI’s Computerized Maintenance Management System as the single point of reference for all related topics and programs. Provide budgetary guidance in line with agreed obsolescence strategy.Monitor and analyze product lifecycle data to identify potential obsolescence issues. Stay informed of industry trends and advancements to anticipate future obsolescence challenges.

Education:

Minimum Required: Bachelor's degree or graduate of technical school or specific trade apprentice program.Preferred Level: Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of post-education experience.

Experience:

Minimum Required: 5+ years of experience within drilling industry or in related discipline.Preferred Level: 10+ years of experience with drilling industry

Skills:

Minimum Required: Problem solving, communication (both written/oral) and presentation.  Maintain high degree of organization to handle a large volume and variety of projects tasks simultaneously. Coordinate critical work issues with peers and other departments.Preferred Level: Expertise in designated discipline and can maintain a high degree of organization to handle a large volume and variety of projects simultaneously. Expert in solving complex technical problems, with minimum input from other technical departments.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Pre-Requisite/Qualification:
