Senior Environmental Scientist / Project Manager

Overview TRC is seeking a highly motivated Senior Environmental Scientist/ Project Manager to join our Engineering, Construction, and Remediation (ECR) team operating out of Greenville, SC. This position will integrate into a well-developed team of environmental engineers, scientists, geologists, and hydrogeologists in a collaborative environment to provide technical support and project management leadership. We are seeking a senior level Environmental Scientist with demonstrated experience in the environmental field with an emphasis on: Site investigation and remediation, Development of conceptual site models, Data evaluation and interpretation Risk assessment Feasibility studies and remedial options evaluation Regulatory interpretation, as appropriate Technical writing Responsibilities also include project management (for simple and complex field sampling, data evaluation and report generation activities (commonly under the RCRA or CERCLA [or similar state programs] regulatory umbrella). Advancement to client-management and “seller-do’er” responsibilities will be welcomed. Responsibilities Plan and coordinate project work involving site investigation, risk assessment, and remediation of soil, sediment, groundwater, and vapor intrusion on projects with moderate to complex technical/regulatory issues. Review and interpret environmental data, develop conceptual site models, identify data gaps, and develop scopes of work, schedules, costs, and health and safety plans for projects under various regulatory programs. Perform technical writing and preparation of complex client deliverables, such as reports, permits, and work plans. Evaluate remedial alternatives and assist clients to develop cost-effective closure strategies including regulatory negotiations. Lead the pilot testing and design of remedial technologies for contaminated soil, groundwater, or vapor intrusion, evaluate performance, and optimize remedial strategies to maximize effectiveness and client value. Appropriately delegate assignments to project team members, engage TRC technical experts, and mentor junior staff. Prepare proposals and participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads. Maintain and grow client relationships to generate repeat business. Build strong collaborative relationships with TRC employees, clients, and subcontractors. Take an active role in personal professional development, including learning new skills and actively looking for new opportunities. Travel periodically, possibly to rural locations. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s or higher degree preferred) in engineering, geology, environmental science, or related discipline. For engineers and geologists, having a PE or PG or the ability to obtain within the first year. Must have 10 - 15 years of professional experience in environmental consulting with progressive project management and technical experience for moderate to complex site investigation/remediation projects under CERCLA, RCRA and state programs Knowledge of vapor intrusion, and/or emerging contaminants. Demonstrated experience with State and Federal environmental regulations (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA), standards and guidance documents for environmental site assessments, site characterization, soil and groundwater monitoring programs, and remediation of contaminated sites. Strong scientific and technical skills, including data collection, experimental design, data analysis and interpretation, and report writing. Capability to effectively manage field and office tasks to completion without supervision, including tasks involving coordination with subcontractors and staff from multiple TRC offices. Candidate is expected to possess solid technical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work efficiently under conditions of multiple deadlines and changing priorities. Ability to manage time, manage multiple project assignments, and to work effectively on a project team. Strong sense of responsibility and work ethic. Excellent communication (verbal and written) and collaboration skills that facilitate detailed planning, timely decision-making, and efficient implementation. Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols. Excellent communication (verbal and written) and collaboration skills. 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification and current 8-hour refresher training. A valid driver’s license is required. Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors. Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
