Sr. Environmental Scientist/Professional Geologist

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Sr. Environmental Scientist/Professional Geologist to join our renewables team. The qualified individual will provide senior technical professional leadership, consultation, peer review, due diligence and investigative services for technical and environmental projects to support the planning, design, and permit approvals primarily for renewable energy and associated development projects as well as residential and commercial land development projects. This is a technical leadership role, and not a management position. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.
Duties and Responsibilities Conduct environmental due diligence and geological assessments and analyses to support primarily renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, and energy storage systems, as well as residential and commercial land development projects.Direct and provide senior technical review of Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments and field investigations.Analyze environmental and geological data and coordinate with staff to prepare detailed reports, maps, and presentations to communicate findings to project teams and clients.Collaborate with project and service managers, engineers and environmental scientists, clients, government agencies and other professionals to integrate geological insights into project planning and design.Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and industry standards during due diligence and geological assessments and reporting; provide geological insight to teams across various environmental service offerings.Participate in project meetings and provide technical expertise to support decision-making processes.Mentor and provide guidance to junior environmental scientists and interns, fostering a collaborative and educational work environment, and ensuring that proper methods, quality assurance and documentation are performed.Participate in administration with project managers, including scopes, budgets, proposals, contracts and invoicing. Required Experience Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.Professional Geologist (PG) license required, and the ability to obtain licensure in Texas within six months of hire if not already established.Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in environmental and geological assessments within the due diligence, investigation and remediation field, preferably with experience in the renewable energy sector; in-depth knowledge of ASTM E1527, ASTM E2247, Unified Soil Classification, USGS conventions, federal and state regulatory programs.Current OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification with annual 8-hour updates required.Proficiency in mapping, data analysis, and interpretation of environmental, geological and hydrological data.Proven ability to work productively on multiple projects both independently and with multiple teams simultaneously under strict deadlines.Dependable, self-starting team player with strong critical thinking, problem-solving and research skills.Strong technical communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex environmental and geological concepts to diverse audiences and to conduct senior peer review and quality assurance of project submittals.Experience with environmental, geological and consulting software and tools (e.g., MS Office suite, Quire, boring log apps, hydrologic/hydrogeologic modeling familiarity, GIS a plus).
