Senior Environmental Engineer

Role description:

As a Senior Consultant, you will collaborate with scientists, engineers, project managers, and technical experts on various activities in support of diverse environmental assessments and permitting projects. You will be expected to support the delivery of environmental studies/environment impact assessments/permit applications and associated studies and compliance activities for the regulated industry sector in North America. 

The environment team of North America works across a wide range of industrial sectors such as: transmission lines, energy (including, renewable, nuclear, oil and gas, hydrogen), waste, food and drink, chemicals and manufacturing.

Role accountabilities:

You will be expected to deliver high quality within strict deadlines. You might be involved in a mix of operational and technical work. Technical work might include:

Identifying and interpreting regulatory requirements (from USEPA Directives, US legislation and Regulatory guidance)  Leading regulator liaison and consultation with other stakeholders  Review of site sensitivities and environmental constraints  Environmental Management Systems development and compliance  Completing Environmental risk assessments (e.g. considering emissions to air, water and land)  Developing, reviewing or updating Environment Management Plans and Contingency Plans  Preparing Mitigation Plans, Odour Management Plans and Noise Management Plans 

Operational work might include the management of a wider team of junior staff, including overarching responsibility for team project delivery, quality, training, development, and wellbeing.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Environment in engineering or the sciences, or technical environmental sciences 8 years of experience in or related to Environment Engineering/Environment Legislations Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a portfolio of environmental impact assessment/ environment management/ environment policy projects, 

Preferred:

Master’s degree in Environment in engineering or the sciences, or technical environmental sciences Experience of working on ESIA, ESDD, E&S management plans and E&S monitoring and performance services of major international projects involving funding agencies. Have a deep understanding of international E&S standards, incl. Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, World Bank EHS Guidelines. Strong mathematical skills, covering quantitative analysis, data manipulation, statistical modelling. Experience in navigating and interpreting environmental legislation  Reviewing data and maps to identify site sensitivities and environmental constraints  Industrial process knowledge and experience (in one or more of the sectors listed above), e.g. understanding technical process descriptions, process flow diagrams and suppliers’ equipment specifications to interpret, extract and summarise relevant information.  Qualitative and/or quantitative risk assessment (e.g. air, water, land, noise, odour, dust, climate change) including identification of sources-pathways-receptors and suggestion of suitable mitigation measures  Data collection, manipulation and presentation  Excellent communication skills and an ability to write clear and concise reports in English
