As an CFD Engineer with ABS you will be actively engaged in driving industry-leading research and development associated with CFD application to vessel energy efficiency problems such as hull form optimization, trim optimization, performance evaluation of Energy Saving Devices, and broad applications serving the marine and offshore industries.
What You Will Do:
Lead or support client service projects on hull form optimization (including local hull optimization), trim optimization, evaluation of hydrodynamic performance of Energy Saving Devices, and CFD simulations in support of EEDI/EEXI compliance; interact with clients, write reports, and give presentations to internal or external audience. Lead or support R&D and technical service projects involving CFD simulations for broad applications in hydrodynamics and aerodynamics for the marine and offshore industries; interact with clients, write reports, and give presentations to internal or external audience. Support broader-scope efforts on energy efficiency, maritime sustainability, decarbonization, with focus on hydrodynamic and simulation aspects. Support general OpenFOAM development efforts such as simulation improvement, model validation, new functionality testing, HPC testing, cloud computation testing when needed. Maintain and demonstrate thought leadership through technical publications and presentations.What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
Minimum requirement of a B.S. degree in Naval Architecture plus seven years of experience in ship design or model testing, or M.S. degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline plus five years of experience in ship design or model testing, or Ph.D. in one of these Engineering disciplines plus two years of experience in ship design or model testing. Strong background in marine hydrodynamics, ship design and powering, NURBS-based parametric CAD modeling, and/or nonlinear optimization required Experience in parametric CAD modeling software such as CAESES preferred Background in design of propellers and energy saving devices preferred Solid background in modern CFD, including Finite Volume Method, unstructured meshing techniques, modern high-performance computing, parallel computation Strong background in marine and offshore applications of OpenFOAMKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency with Linux operating system and HPC environment Strong communicator with excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent command of the English language. Demonstrated ability to work well with others. Self-motivated continuous learning ability Ability to obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Systems.
